For keeping track of birthdays, the app works fine. However, the only way to change the year that's displayed appears to be by swiping left or right, one year at a time. This is tedious if you want to know what day of the week a person was born on 20+ years ago, or what day of the week their birthday will fall on 20+ years from now. It would be nice if the developers would add a way to specify the year to display (e.g., tap the year shown at the top to edit the value directly).

Spent like an hour getting everything set up and imported for a couple dozen birthdays, everything was great at first but now when I open the app there's nothing. It acts like I am opening it up again for the first time. If I skip all that, the calendar is completely blank. Thought I would try importing from my calendars just to see if maybe something glitched out, only to have it pop up and tell me I have to pay for that feature. Don't even know if it would work, not going to pay to find out.

thats very unfortunate, unfortunately i don't know what could cause this.
Birthdays only get soft deleted, in the bottom in the settings you can enable showing deleted birthdays, hope this helps.
Kind Regards Christopher

I love how easy it is to add birthdays, however reminders are inconsistent. If I restart my phone, I'll get a ton of reminders all at once--basically all of the birthdays that occurred in the last two months. If I open the app, I will get reminders that day and sometimes the next 2-3 days, but that's it. I really need reminders to pop up on their own.

Sorry to hear that, could be a battery saver settings in your device which kills the app and prevent it from sending notification.
In the settings of the birthday calendar there is a site "Troubleshoot notifications". Following the instruction hopefully fixes the issue.
