About this app

Acute Child is a healthcare reference work that helps authorized healthcare professionals to quickly and safely begin initial treatment of acutely ill or injured children.

Acute Child contains three parts:

1. Guide sheet with a quick overview of vital parameters, sizes of equipment and doses of selected medications for emergency situations for a child of the selected weight
2. Treatment guidelines for 29 acute, life-threatening pediatric conditions as well as guidance on general ABCDE assessment and pain management and sedation of children. The guidelines are adapted to the selected weight and cover at least the first 30 minutes of treatment
3. Resuscitation algorithms for stabilization of newborns and advanced resuscitation of children from the Danish Pediatric Society and the Danish Council for Resuscitation, respectively

All content is available for children in the range of 3-50 kg.

Akut Barn is easy and intuitive to use:

- By turning the wheel on the front of Akut Barn, age and weight are selected. When “OK” is pressed in the middle of the wheel, guide sheets corresponding to the selected weight are presented
- Treatment instructions adapted to the selected weight are presented by pressing the menu button “Acute conditions” at the top of the guide sheet
- Resuscitation algorithms are available directly from the front by clicking on the baby icon and child icon, respectively.

Akut Barn is not a substitute for local instructions but can help the treatment team get started quickly and can reduce the risk of medication errors in emergency situations. Use is at your own risk.

Acute Child has been developed by employees at Rigshospitalet's Department of Anesthesia, Surgery and Trauma Center:

- Senior Physician Morten Bøttger, pediatric anesthesiologist
- Senior Physician Lasse Høgh Andersen, pediatric anesthesiologist and prehospital emergency physician
- Senior Physician Michael Friis Tvede, anesthesiologist and prehospital emergency physician

The professional content has been developed in collaboration with a group of experts in emergency treatment of children both pre- and in-hospital.

Acute Child 2022 has been developed based on funds allocated by the regional council of the Capital Region of Denmark for the Pediatric Emergency Department and financial support from Rigshospitalet's Department of Anesthesia, Surgery and Trauma Center. Acute Child 2022 is a further development of the first version of Acute Child, which was published with support from TrygFonden in 2012.
