5 days of forecast with a frequency of 3 and 6 hours are updated on a daily basis and are displayed on Google Maps. Oceanographic and sea state forecasts are given for sea surface temperature, surface currents, significant wave height and direction, wave period and direction, sea level. Meterological forecasts are given for air temperature, mean sea level pressure, precipitation, cloud cover and 10 meters winds.
Sea Conditions provides a user friendly interface with zoom and drag Google Maps' features allowing the display of data with different levels of details.
Meteorological forecasts are produced and certified by the Italian Meteorological Service (http://www.meteoam.it/).
Oceanographic and wave forecasts are produced by the Mediterranean Forecasting System (gnoo.bo.ingv.it/mfs) of the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV, Bologna, Italy ).
Sea Conditions is available also on web (www.sea-conditions.com) and is a product of "TESSA" (TEchnology for the Situational Sea Awareness), an industrial research project funded under the PON "Ricerca & Competitività 2007-2013" program of the Ministry for Education, University and Research. TESSA is an initiative of Links Management and Technology s.p.a., the project’ leader, CMCC (Centro euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici) and CNR-IAMC (Istituto per l'Ambiente Marino e Costiero del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche).
MeteoSIX allows you to search among more than 29500 towns and 820 beaches. You can also select any place on the map, on land or sea, and get the forecast for that point. You can check the hourly forecast for the following variables:
- Sky state
- Snow level
- Relative humidity
- Cloud coverage
- Air pressure at sea level
- Wave direction, height and period
- Water temperature
- Water salinity
- Sunrise and sunset hours
- Tides height
MeteoSIX Mobile allows you to save your favourite places, so that you can access to their forecast quickly and also to the forecast for your current location. It also includes a widget that allows you to have the forecast for your location or any of your favourites handy. IMPORTANT: to be able to use the widget the application must be installed in the device's internal storage, not in the SD card (Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> MeteoSIX Mobile -> Move to phone).
The main difference with other applications is its georeferenced nature. The data displayed for any point comes directly from the outputs of the computer weather models of MeteoGalicia, without human supervision. The resolution of the models depends on the area, beign greater in Galicia.
To get the data, the application accesses the public MeteoSIX API, which can be freely used by any user.
MeteoSIX Mobile is being developed under the projects:
