Found it! Was using another dimmer app for a while but it just wasn't up to par. I thought to myself: there must be an app that takes advantage of root to make it even better. Sure enough, when I saw the name chainfire pop up that was a name I've seen on xda so I had a good feeling about this app. The best part is it takes screenshots without the filter overlay which none of the other filter apps seemed to do and it was one of my biggest issues. Great work!
Great! But... CF.Lumen fills the gap left when the render effects were removed after CM7, even makes them automatic. UPDATE: Except it's been gliching out lately. It will stop filtering, except the notification thinks it still is. Wake. Sleep. It kicks back in. Please fix. Then back to 5 star.
This is the lumen app you've been looking for! Well Chainfire really delivered. This app adds a custom driver which allows the screen to be responsive towards your environment as well as buttery smooth transitions. In a movie theater? This app will know due to your light sensor adapting your display to night time light restrictions. You can check your phone without being that guy. Need to get up early for a flight? The app will register your alarm and set its self to a daytime setting instead of waiting for the sun to come up. It's amazing!
Great if it works The old version was great. For several versions now the driver causes Nexus 7 screen to be one solid color. Need to cold boot to uninstall. Compatibility mode works but seems to cause system lag. Will try something else instead of sideloading and refraining from updates again.
Doesn't seem to work automatically anymore. It used to always work in the past, now every time I unlock my phone, it doesn't switch to sundown mode by itself. I have to disable it and enable it again everytime. Quote annoying. Using the root method.
A lot better than Twilight Even without root, the sheer customisability plus the inclusion of a "sundown" mode puts it head and shoulders above all competitors, not just Twilight. Instead of a sudden 0-100 change, you get a much more gradual transition.

If you are having performance issues since last update, try changing the driver mode from "compatibility" to "performance".
Flashing the original colors and the filter disappearing may also be fixed by this.
