About this app

HelmChat features high-quality audio, noise-cancellation, auto gain (auto volume) and unlimited range for all motorcycle riders, so you can keep talking to each other at high riding speeds or longer distances apart.

Use your existing Bluetooth headset or intercom and connect it to your mobile phone. Once a group chat is started in HelmChat you can talk to the entire group with a maximum 75 people.

What it delivers:
- Compatible with all Bluetooth headsets: Sena, Nolan, Schuberth, Midland, etc.
- High quality audio with noise-cancellation and auto volume gain
- No more FOMR (Fear Of Missing Range) as it uses the mobile cell network.
- Automatic re-connection to the group if the internet connection was unavailable for a period of time.
- Encrypted chats. Only the people who you invite can hear what is said in the chat.
- Absolutely FREE : no ads, no data is being harvested or sold. Why? To give something back to the motorcycle community and because I was tired of my Sena vendor lock-in to chat with other riders with a different brand of intercom.

The mobile application and server software is based on the original open-source Jitsi Meet software, but with all the camera features removed. This way you will never enable the camera by accident. A group chat will use around 30 MB per hour when talking to others.

iOS version is available on our website.

First of all I'm very happy that such an app exist and many thanks to developer for making it. Me and my friends (6 bikes including 2 on IPhones ) tested it last Sunday and initially it worked extremely well. Quality was even better than our standard intercoms (Cardo and Sena). Clear and noise free. Only 2 guys on IPhones were very quiet and we could barely hear them. Problems started when we got to poor coverage area. We were disconnected which is fine but some guys were not able to return to the chat even even though the app was showing there were connected to the sever. Unfortunately the same thing happened a few more times. The main problem is that we couldn't properly hear notification beeps and we didn't know where was the status of the connection. This was inconvenient as we had to stop to see what is going on. Some voice messages indicating the current status would be very useful, for instance "Reconnecting" or similar. I also tested the app in my home and didn't experience those problems. The app always re-connected to server without issues. I don't know why my friends had those issues but something was definitely not right. I still think that this is very important and useful project. Greetings from Ireland.

My mate and I both wanted this to work to avoid shelling out $$$ on proper comms units but it really wasn't adequate. Riding in patchy internet coverage in NZ we found it routinely struggled to reconnect. No sign of it buffering and then sending messages once it had reconnected either unfortunately. While we were just using basic headphone/mic setups, it seems to struggle with wind noise cancellation, often sending ambient noise and was hard to hear once over 80kmhr. Love the concept though!

It would be nice if it lowered the volume, or paused the playing music when we talk. Maybe built in actual voice commands. Button commands from bt. And well documented. Music pops and crackles when using audio chat. When connecting sena via Bluetooth to phone (like a bt headset) the volume for my mic is pretty low according to a web user, but loud and clear when no BT. Samsung Note 9 128GB

I just released a version which greatly increases music quality when a chat is running. It also lowers the music volume (70%) and set voice to 100%. This should make listing to music and talking a better experience. Unfortunately, technically it's not possible to lower music when someone talks. PS. My Sena SMH5 has a low volume mic as well.

What's new

Polished the application to ensure a smooth and simple usage.

A lot of small optimizations under the hood such as lowering the re-connection time from 30 seconds to a maximum of 10 seconds when the data connection is unavailable.

And the Apple iPhone release is coming soon!
