The game is a 2D Shoot 'Em Up-styled game. The levels move forward automatically but you are able to move the protector around the current part of the level and shoot incoming enemies using a digital joystick and a shoot button. The enemies will try to defeat you in various ways but you must also try to not hit the obstacles in the levels. Some of the enemies you face will drop a power up once you have defeated them, but beware, not all of the power ups are beneficial!
All of the levels have a boss at the end which will stop the level moving forward.
If you get hit by an enemy or you hit an obstacle, your health bar will deplete a little. When your health bar goes below 50% the dream will turn into a nightmare where everything is more difficult but if you survive long enough you will come back to the normal dream. The health bar will replenish over time automatically when you are not hit by anything but in the nightmare the health bar will replenish more slowly.
The purpose of the game is to be educational and fun. The goal of the educational side is to teach about the amount of sleep a human being needs, how different activities, foods and intoxicants affect your sleep and also to teach about the different stages of sleep.
