Review from Kate Midnight Book Girl
I listen to audiobooks daily, and always from my phone. I love that Libro.fm partners with independent bookstores. The app also has a feature to listen at different speeds, which is good because I like to listen at 2x speed. So glad they're starting a monthly membership!
I wish this service was better because I'd prefer to support indie bookstores over the big A. The usability of the app is pretty poor, but the worst thing is when it finishes one chapter it just stops and you have to go hit play again. Such a frustrating experience for something that's supposed to be relaxing.
This app is ok. Supporting indie bookstores is awesome, but functionality is moderate at best. You can't bookmark passages from the lock screen, which is a major flaw. It is also difficult to access the controls from the lock screen. As it currently works, it just shows you the book and track. To get the controls, you have to swipe down on the bar with the book title, but half the time that does not work and am force to unlock the phone. As a heavy book listener in the car and at work, these are major omissions/flaws.
A simple app that gets the job done through a wonderful service. I love that Libro partners with indie bookstores! The app is a little bare bones when compared with others but it has all the necessities including the ability to increase the playback speed.
Love the libro.fm service but this app leaves out key benefits. No direct downloads. This is listen-only. If you want to listen on another, more feature-rich app, you have to download from the website. Also, no access to the store to browse for or buy more books. I'll stick to the mobile site.
Playback volume is low relative to other apps, which leads to the need to constantly adjust when switching to the app.
Works. Not as refined as audible but no issues at all.
