About this app

The Constitutional Council is the independent collegiate court primarily responsible for ensuring the compliance of laws with constitutional principles. The College is composed of nine members, plus, as ex officio members, former presidents of the Republic. Laurent Fabius chairs the Constitutional Council since March 8, 2016.

The Constitutional Council checks whether laws passed by Parliament are consistent with the provisions of the Constitution and the principles contained in the block of constitutionality:
- before the promulgation of the law, if the Council is seized (DC decisions). The constitutional review is compulsory for organic laws and regulations of the parliamentary assemblies.
