Made in France has never been so accessible.
The official Marques de France guide app lets you know the origin of all your products: clothing, shoes, accessories, decorative objects, furniture, bedding, and more. It also alerts you to great deals: discounted products and exclusive promo codes.
Marques de France is the only guide dedicated to French manufacturing, revealing the workshops and factories where products are made to ensure they are labeled "Made in France." This allows you to prioritize eco-responsible and ethical consumption.
Marques de France was born from two desires and one observation:
The desire to consume more products made in France, in order to favor eco-responsible products, meaning they haven't traveled around the world three times before reaching us, and they also meet the environmental and health regulations of the European Union.
The second question we wanted to answer was whether major French brands, which originated in France and have their headquarters there, still have production facilities in France.
However, in trying to answer these questions, we realized that there was no comprehensive website. The existing resources were either simple directories, lacking additional information to differentiate between French brands (headquartered in France) and those committed to French manufacturing (made in France), or they had a very limited approach, focusing solely on a specific sector, such as responsible fashion promoting slow fashion (timeless collections in small batches), ethical working conditions, and eco-friendly materials (modal, linen, hemp, organic cotton, etc.).
The "Made in France" label also raises many questions regarding the steps involved in qualifying for the label, and generates numerous expectations, even misconceptions, about consistently superior quality and a consistently high price. But as with all topics, the answers are actually more nuanced, and we share them through the various articles available in our magazine.
The goal is to inform you about the different ways to recognize "Made in France" products and combat "French-washing," to present existing labels such as Origine France Garantie, Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, Indication Géographique Protégée (IGP), and Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP), to define what constitutes a fair price, to (re)discover the cradles of the French textile industry (Calais-Caudry® lace, the hosiery factories of Troyes, the linen weavers' houses in the Vosges, the clothing workshops of Roanne, etc.), and finally, to discuss current events, companies that have successfully relocated to France and brought back lost expertise, that are demonstrating innovation, or that are aiming to revitalize a region.
Finally, we are fully aware that producing in France means a higher retail price compared to products made in Asia by fast fashion giants. Therefore, our entire approach aims to highlight enduring French expertise without ever trying to convince you to switch to 100% French-made products. Firstly, because some products manufactured in France simply don't exist, and secondly, because the price difference can be threefold.
You can use Marques de France because you believe we can consume less to consume better, that every little gesture counts, or simply out of curiosity.
Long live French-made products!
