About this app

The INPN species mobile application allows you to discover the diversity of species present around you from your mobile and share your observations with experts. Curious about nature, enthusiasts, schoolchildren, take part in the inventory of the biodiversity of your municipality whether you are in mainland France or overseas!

To share your observation, nothing could be simpler, just a few clicks on your phone:
- take one to three photos of the species you want to identify (wildlife, sharp photo, visible determinants, etc.) or search your photos in your gallery;
- inform the experts about the date and place of the observation using the "geolocate" function or by manually entering the name of your municipality;
- specify the simple group of the species (mammal, insect, plant, etc.).

If you wish to go further in the identification, you can try to indicate the taxonomic group (butterflies, salamanders and newts, flowering plants, etc.). Species identification assistance is also available with an illustrated list of species that may match your description.

You will be informed of the progress regarding the validation of your observations and will allow the experts to complete the species distribution maps. Become an observer of the biodiversity of your municipality and an actor of knowledge!

Teachers can also inventory biodiversity with their students by creating class accounts (from primary to senior year) and then selecting the students' observations before sending them to the experts. Educational activities to be found on the Determin'Obs website accompany the class according to levels and school programs.
Finally, quests are offered to answer a scientific question concerning a particular group or species. The data collected will allow experts to better understand the ecology, distribution or life cycle of the targeted species.

Depending on the season, new quests will be regularly offered. Some will take place over several months while others will be offered over shorter periods. Similarly, some will target mainland France, others overseas, some will be national and others much more local.
