About this app

CBT-i Coach is for people who are engaged in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia with a health provider, or who have experienced symptoms of insomnia and would like to improve their sleep habits. The app will guide you through the process of learning about sleep, developing positive sleep routines, and improving your sleep environment. It provides a structured program that teaches strategies proven to improve sleep and help alleviate symptoms of insomnia.

CBT-i Coach is intended to augment face-to-face care with a healthcare professional. It can be used on its own, but it is not intended to replace therapy for those who need it.

CBT-i Coach is based on the therapy manual, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Veterans, by Rachel Manber, Ph.D., Leah Friedman, Ph.D., Colleen Carney, Ph.D., Jack Edinger, Ph.D., Dana Epstein, Ph.D., Patricia Haynes, Ph.D., Wilfred Pigeon, Ph.D. and Allison Siebern, Ph.D. CBT-i has been shown to be efficacious for insomnia for both Veterans and civilians.

CBT-i Coach was a collaborative effort between VA’s National Center for PTSD, Stanford School of Medicine, and DoD’s National Center for Telehealth and Technology.

I used an earlier version of the app in 2019, and recently started using it again. I wish I hadn't updated it. The new version is missing an essential feature: The old version let me export my data to an excel file showing data from every day, & I could print it for my sleep specialist. In the new version the file only shows data for each "week" (7-day average?). I'm not seeing data for each day. Did they get rid of this? If so, Why? Averaging "bad" days with the rest of the week makes no sense.

I've used this app for years, maybe even almost a decade. It worked great for what I needed, which was a no nonsense, no frills, no gameification sleep tracking. But the latest update broke more than it helped. Actually I can't see what the update improved other than a sleek UI, which is unimportant if the tracking works. Which it doesn't anymore because of glitches. I really hope they just rolled out this version too early and bug fixes are coming soon. Otherwise they ruined the best app.

It seems to be back to the app that worked really well with some nice new features. Still having trouble linking to google fit integration, but that's a minor issue. I hope loss of data due to an update never happens again, but I will still be periodically exporting data just in case.

We are sorry to hear that you lost your data in the update. We are working quickly on another update that will prevent others from losing data in the future. We have also learned about a couple of workarounds that have helped some people recover their data, so please reach out to us at mobilementalhealth@va.gov so we can help troubleshoot.
