In the area of Prespa, 2,080 species and subspecies of plants have been recorded so far - 30% of the Greek flora in an area that corresponds to 0.3% of the land area of the country - making Prespa one of the most important centers of plant diversity in Greece!
The Flora Prespae Database app aims both to update and to collect new data about the spread of plants in the Prespa National Park by citizen scientists. The user can find photographic material, refer to distribution maps, and learn about the rarity, characteristics and ecology of 30 easily recognizable species.
If during your excursions in the area you spot one of them, do not hesitate to offer another recording by pressing the "Make a Recording" option located on the tab of each species. After activating your mobile phone's GPS so that the coordinates of your capture are available, you can take a photo of the species you have spotted, add comments about the capture point (e.g. "in a beech forest" or "at the edge of a forest road") and complete your registration by pressing "send".
Automatically, your record will be sent to the digital database of www.floraprespaedabase.gr, and after the necessary control by the partners of the Society for the Protection of Prespa, thus increasing the available information about their distribution and ecology in the area.
