If one desires a tight stomach and a six-pack, one can choose from hundreds of apps. It is important to know, though, that for many people (including two thirds of women giving birth, and everyone else with a rectus diastasis), these apps will do more harm than be useful.
What is Potzak?
Potzak is a training program designed for mothers, in order to strengthen the abdomini after giving birth. The symptom of “mummy tummy” (i.e. rectus diastasis) is a problem known by few, but affecting many in the third trimester of pregnancy, which means the stretching of the sinewy part of the abdomini as a result of the size of the fetus. About two thirds of mothers have this symptom, but the exercises do not only help them but anyone wanting a tight, healthy stomach.
The majority of women giving birth experience that during pregnancy, the abdomini changes. Many think that the cause is lack of movement and gaining weight, but the symptom of bulging, slack belly also appears with women having regularly done exercises, sports earlier.
What is the mummy tummy?
The medical explanation is the following: at sudden changes in weight, or when the perimeter of the belly grows (including pregnancy as well), the sinewy parts of the abdomini are extended. In the absence of hernia, this is truly not more than extension and loosening, not a complete opening. Due to its nature, the sinews do not contract, or only to a very small extent. As a result, the muscles of the stomach separate, since the sinews in the middle extend.
Why is this important? Unfortunately, very few people know that diastasis recti (the “mummy tummy”). has a direct impact on the blood pressure, lymph circulation of the person. In many cases, this is the reason behind varicose veins, hemorrhoids. Since the stomach gets looser, the pressure earlier experienced changes, and this change in pressure has a direct impact on blood vessels and the fluids in them.
Diastasis recti often appears via the symptom of a backache, and restricts mothers in various movements (lifting, sitting up).
It is important to know that R.D. cannot be rehabilitated with “regular” stomach strengthening exercises. What’s more, in many cases doing the wrong exercises does more harm than benefit.
Using Potzak, mothers can take action to live healthier, for rehabilitate the abdomini after pregnancy, and to maintain an ideal pressure in the core of the body.
