The KONTAKT Interpreting Service is a nationwide video interpretation system, which was established in 2014 by the National Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. With the help of an application, those concerned can request the help of a sign language interpreter on working days between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. All you need is a tablet or PC and a live internet connection.
Call types: VRS or VRI
#####
Video Relay Switching (VRS)
A service during which the participating customers are far from each other. With the help of KONTAKT, they connect with each other. The participating sign language interpreter performs sign language interpretation for the deaf customer via video, and communicates in writing to the hard of hearing customers. And what is said by the hearing-impaired is translated into loud speech for the hearing party who is in contact with him on the phone.
#####
Video Relay Interpreting (VRI)
A service during which the hearing impaired and the hearing party are in the same place. The remote sign language interpreter can be accessed using KONTAKT. In the video connection, the interpreter translates the spoken information into sign language or writing for the hearing-impaired person, while the questions and answers given by the deaf person in sign language are translated into audible language. Thus, a sign language interpreter is "virtually" present in the conversation.
