The Maharashtra State Government has taken a project of Directorate General of Information and Public Relations, with the support of UNICEF and active participation of Higher and Technical Education Department has started "YUVA MAHITI DOOT' initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to increase volunteerism among youths and to disseminate information about various Government Schemes directly to the prospective beneficiaries through the students at graduate and post-graduate level in different streams in colleges all over Maharashtra.
Presently, information about government schemes is disseminate mainly through the newspapers, television channels and radio and other traditional mass media. The prospective beneficiaries of government schemes are mostly less educated and from Below Poverty Line. Many of them reside in remote areas where newspapers, television or radio are not used. The government schemes which need to to reach the
prospective beneficiaries, will be taken to them through the enthusiastic youths' through this initiative.


युनिसेफच्या सहकार्याने राज्य शासनाचे उच्च शिक्षण विभाग आणि तंत्र शिक्षण विभाग यांच्या प्रत्यक्ष सहभागाने माहिती व जनसंपर्क महासंचालनालयाने ‘युवा माहिती दूत’ हा उपक्रम हाती घेतला आहे. विविध शाखांमध्ये पदवी व पदव्युत्तर शिक्षण घेणाऱ्या महाविद्यालयातील युवकांमार्फत शासकीय योजनांची माहिती प्रस्तावित लाभार्थ्यांपर्यंत थेटपणे पोहचविणे हे ‘युवा माहिती दूत’ उपक्रमाचे वैशिष्ट्य आहे.
शासन अनुदानित वैयक्तिक लाभाच्या योजना प्रस्तावित लाभार्थ्यांपर्यंत पोहचविण्याकरिता त्यांच्याशी थेट संपर्क साधण्याची आवश्यकता असते. दारिद्ररेषेखालील तसेच ग्रामीण वा दुर्गम भागातील अशिक्षित व अर्धशिक्षित लाभार्थ्यांपर्यंत त्यांच्यासाठी असलेल्या योजनांची माहिती पोहचविण्याला वृत्तपत्रे, रेडिओ आणि दूरचित्रवाणी वाहिन्या या माध्यमांना मर्यादा येतात. शासकीय योजना प्रस्तावित लाभार्थ्यापर्यत दुहेरी संवादातून त्यांच्यापर्यत प्रभावीपणे पोहचविण्यास राज्यातील समाजकार्याची आवड असलेल्या उत्साही तरूण वर्गाचे साहाय्य घेण्याच्या हेतूने ‘युवा माहिती दूत’ हा उपक्रम राबविण्यात येत आहे.
