ChatSecure is a free and open source messaging app that features OTR encryption over XMPP. You can connect to your existing accounts on Google, create new accounts on public XMPP servers (including via Tor), or even connect to your own server for extra security.

Unlike other apps that keep you stuck in their walled garden, ChatSecure is fully interoperable with other clients that support OTR and XMPP, such as Xabber, Adium, Jitsi, Zom, Pidgin, and more.

ChatSecure only uses well-known open source cryptographic libraries to keep your conversations private. Other apps may make claims about "military grade" security but, without publicly auditable source code and verifiable end-to-end encryption, you cannot be truly safe.

Needs a bit of work for Android 7 I don't know how it checks if orbot is running, but it doesn't work on Android 7. Every attempt to sign in with 'use orbot' checked is met with a message saying that orbot isn't running. It then attempts to start orbot, and loops back to the sign in button. Everything else works as expected, though.

Too bad In group chat we can not share file, voice, pic and no thing it is some line sms env. Am I wronge? Or sending pics, files... are just for 2way chat and not group chats.

Pretty good It used to interfere with regular Hangouts when using encryption, but now it works. Edit: found a problem where images are sent encrypted in an unencrypted Google chat. No work around.

When app developer/grp will improve & Respect User's Privacy-Rights & apply betr alt, then we wil Updt this Review. There r other, same type of app, which r using less system "Permissions", for similar functionalities. Posted this msg when we used v14.3 & earlier ver.

Need help I'm not sure how to setup an account, I don't know what xmpp or jabber or any of that is, I like the idea of being able to communicate privately and securely but there is NO tutorials, instructions or anything that I can find online. I don't know what any of the settings or features do. You download the app and that's it, you're on your own. I just need a step by step tutorial on how to use it. I'm not dumb, just new to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Doest work for you me. Supposed to be able to use this in place of messenger. COULD NOT find ANYTHING in the way of how to set if up. Wasted a full day on it. How about some guides. Really what a complete joke. I'm sick of wasting time on apps like this!

great idea, but lacks info & options if you have no idea what xmpp or otr is than you'll need to do some research before you can use this with any ease. it's just not that user friendly if your new to encryption & tor related technologies.

Uncomplete, lacks options, buggy. Doesn't allow blocking of messages from unknown contacts - esp. Russian spam, this is getting worse. Doesn't download contacts for added account. No history. It works but Update---It works but... I still would like it to work 100% I can use it now but it works sort of depending on who I'm chatting with. My device to a Galaxy works only one way. I can send and they can see both sides of the conversation I can only see what I typed. Sure it's device based only it just so happens I'd like to chat with a friend with one. Works totally fine droid RAZR to nexus 7 or other droids. Here's still hoping for a total solution. Also it still crashes on close 50%

Constant Problems Signing into Riseup account I'd love to use the app, but my Riseup XMMP account almost never let's Me sign in. It signed in once. I tried again with Orbot, never connected. Just kept saying signing in. I try again without Orbot, doesn't work. Very confused as to why.

I am not able to start chatsecure from contacts directly from IM segemt of contact.. the account is logged in chatsecure but when i click IM in contact , the chatsecure startups and says 'Create a new chat account for username 'null' ? Kindly provide the solution

Otr? Otr will connect when it wants to. I will go days with it working fine and then it just wont lock for some contacts. This is pretty much the point right? Without tor and otr i should just give out my number and just send sms.

App kills battery Shutdown and lock does nothing but cycle the app even after unchecking the "start automatically" option in settings. Please fix this. Its killing my battery life. App works great otherwise.

Doesn't work with orbot Whenever I check the "connect with tor" it says orbot isn't running. Clicking OK to start orbot flashed orbot on screen then back to chat secure. Registering or signing in still don't work. Restarting orbot resolved the issue.

Won't close When I hit shut down and lock, it still remains open no matter how many times I exit the program. The notification bar icon will continue to persist.

Not working with Orbot Using Android OS version 6.0 on a Samsung S5 your program does not connect to orbit at all and keep saying it wants to use Orbot despite the fact it is already running. You guys really need to fix this ASAP.
