The National Institute for Research and Development for Earth Physics (INP), founded in 1977 under the name of the Center for Earth Physics and reorganized in 1996 as its current name, is coordinated by the Ministry of Research and Innovation.
INFP is the official institution with a role in the monitoring of seismic activity on the territory of Romania. One of the institute's most important missions, defined by the National Seismic Risk Management Program, is the collection and transmission of real-time data for operative decision-makers in the event of a severe earthquake.
Along with the monitoring of seismic activity in Romania, the activities aim to broaden the horizons of scientific knowledge, to increase and promote creativity and innovation through fundamental and applied research in Earth Physics in general and seismology, as well as the implementation and exploitation of research for the benefit of society.
