Awesome idea, somewhat lackluster implementation - I just plan my trips with komoot, export as gpx and load that into hammerhead and I'm golden! This thing rocks: no more annoying voice commands, don't have to look at a map as often...

You should definitely try it! The App works well with the navigation unit, and the light patters are beautiful. The customer service as well is wonderful, 100% helping with issues. Be sure to get the unit and try it out!
The address search stopped working. I can only choose my destination by dropping a pin in the map, this is no life.
The step to pair the Hammerhead with the app for the first time does not seem to be working very well. Not working for me at least.
This app could be OK if it didn't crash all the time.
Just barely useable The Hammerhead hardware is ok, but the app is poor, lots of crashes, struggles to import gpx files, eats battery life, etc
Hammerhead February 13, 2017Hi Sebastien, We are sorry for the trouble. Do you have the 2.3.2 version with 1.5.5-1.15 Firmware? You can write to us about the problem at email@example.com
Needs web interface I have gone from a 1 star to 2, it needs to have a Web interface so files can be loaded from friends, or organized group rides. I jumped on this on Dragon #24 to sign up, I travel and can't read the Garmin map easily. It's the right idea, push it that extra mile please
The Hammerhead device is lovely and has such great potential but the app is shockingly poor. The app is buggy and slow, fails to load maps, fails to create routes, creates very poorly designed routes and crashes. The device is great and could be a big seller if the app support were there. Get a great team building the app and get a working release out please.
Great update The app now works really well. Only area that needs improvement is calculating battery percentage/life. Can't wait for the upcoming Strava integration.
Hammerhead September 14, 2015Hi Robert, the latest app has some improvements to the Bluetooth stack, are you still facing these problems?
This has so much potential. But I find it too erratic. The routing needs improvement, certainly around London. Every few months I take it out hoping I can get that confident/reliable feeling from it. The journey always results in me having to navigate parts by phone screen or guesswork, sending me the wrong way up a one way road, or HH behaving oddly. A real shame because the idea is brill. I think they should simply sell the hardware and API and integrate with more mature routing offerings. to provide turn-by-turn navigation and re-routing. I'll try GPX imports in future (not sure if it can re-route back to a GPX route though?).
Not meeting expectations on what we were sold I'm pretty sure I don't need to turn on GPS to know where I am at. Yet the app starts in the middle of the ocean every time. I'm sure there are a few different ways to figure out my location with our turning in GPS and burning battery.
Not ready for Prime Time I understand that this device is in beta I'm cool with that . The issue I'm having is pairing drops and the fact you have to wait for the battery to drain so it will reset . I hope you 12 hours to wait and aren't in any hurry so you try to resync . There really needs to be a reset button under the charging cap I have no idea why one was not designed in . In a nutshell it was made to simple which might be it's downfall . I'll put it on the shelf and wait for updates .
Let down Its a cool concept but... The app won't let me set the start location and the map system/route modification is weak at best, and something other than an "x" when I get off course would be good. How about lighting up a dot on the side of the path (I.e. if I'm off the path and the closest point to to my right...). For other people who have one, the best way that I've found to make a route is to plot it out in gmaps and convert it, down load it to my phone and import the route.
Hammerhead November 9, 2015Hi Nick, Sorry for the disappointment and appreciate your feedback. Can you please write to firstname.lastname@example.org with the issue specifics so that our Technical Team can assist you? Best Regards, Team Hammerhead!
Disappointed. Depends on internet connection for routing which makes it untrustworthy when you need it most (e.g. when traffic signs force a diversion). Would it not be possible to download maps around the area of the planned route (or better for a large area) and re-route without internet?. Very slow to respond to turns - frequently "appears" to navigate around multiple turns in a row whereas it is just slow to stop the notification of the previous turn. Doesn't give a positive belief in the directions. Sometimes indicates turns where there are only curves in the road. The display is however very clear and easy to interpret... that is very well done so there is hope for it with some major software updates. Paired with Samsung Galaxy S5 in Netherlands.
Hammerhead October 21, 2015Hi Duncan, Sorry for the trouble and we appreciate your suggestion. Slow response during turns is something we are constantly working on and we promise to come up with a better solution very soon. Please write to email@example.com so that we can resolve these. Thanks, Team Hammerhead
After 4 months, the device still doesn't work I have tried the Hammerhead with a Huawei G535, a Nexus 5 and now a Nexus 5X, and the device continues to malfunction. In the time I've owned the Hammerhead, I have periodically tried the device in hope that a new update will cure the bugs; I tried the device today but still no luck. My typical issue is 'device disconnected from app' or 'rider off track', despite the fact that I live and work in London, where there is an infinite number of ways to reach your destination. Bad software?
Hammerhead November 17, 2015Hi James, thanks for your note, today we have released a major update to the navigation part of the app which is undergoing beta test now, would you like to be part of that group and give us some feedback, the info to join this program is here http://hammerhead.helpshift.com/a/hammerhead-one/?s=beta-program
Worst investment ever. I waited almost 2 years for the product so I was excited. I am who they talk about in their promo videos "in a new city and unsure of safe routes". This app and device put me in extreme danger more than once. It has routed me onto 4 lane highways. Onto ramps for interstates. It has even taken me 2 miles in the wrong direction. I will stick with Google maps audible tones from my phone. This will be a paper weight. I'm not sure any update can fix this terrible map system.
Do you ever reply to emails I have a problem upgrading latest firmware. Won't upload to hammerhead. Sent various emails and never once had a reply
Hammerhead September 14, 2015Hi Steven, did you get in contact with us at firstname.lastname@example.org, if not please send us an email and one of us will help you. The latest versions of the app have many of these issues fixed, please check the FAQ's at http://support.hammerhead.io
Device doesn't pair up with the phone Always the same situation: I turn the hammerhead on but it freezes right away, not allowing me to pair it up with the phone. I then must wait until the battery is empty and try again, with no success!!! I'm VERY disappointed. V-E-R-Y.
Hammerhead September 21, 2015Hi Alberto, please send an email to email@example.com with the details of your order, i will send in a replacement device for you.
Terrible app that can't update the firmware. HORRIBLE customer support. I've tried multiple times to reach out, got one response, and it has been two weeks since I last emailed with a question and no response. I've sent an email each week, with no acknowledgement. Do not buy this product.
Couple of big flaws making it unusable I really want this product to work, because I think the desired customer experience sounds brilliant. Two major problems I have encountered that have so far made it unusable. 1) When I load a gpx file it doesn't seem possible to start the route part way through? The app wants me to go to the start of the route, rather than just picking up at a point along the way. 2) The app doesn't seem to hold GPS position very well on my HTC One M8. The unit will pair, but quickly show a spinning circle
Hammerhead September 14, 2015Hi Regan, the latest version of the app has all these issues fixed, please give it a try and let us know if you still face these issues at firstname.lastname@example.org
wtf routed me into horrible car filled traffic when a bike path was 1/4 mile away, routed me onto a freeway entrance. sucks
Hammerhead September 21, 2015Hi Sean, we are in beta test to provide alternative routes. You can take a peek at it by becoming a beta tester for us by signing up here http://hammerhead.helpshift.com/a/hammerhead-one/?s=beta-program
Slight improvement over the last version in the latest release. Short test showed no more strange half-kilometer-doubling-back-before-finally-continuing problems. However, there are still other problems: app says it's unable to find a path between two waypoints that are a few hundred meters apart. I see several. I've done them on bicycle, on an actual bike path. Choice of path is still as strange as it was last time, most likely due to bad map data for Brussels. Keep improving - you're not yet at the quality level where I'll decide to buy one.
Hammerhead September 14, 2015Hi Bob, would you please send us the location of where the route was not made. Its probably due to the not having road information in the OpenStreetMaps. You could update the data yourself (http://hammerhead.helpshift.com/a/hammerhead-one/?s=reporting-issues&f=how-do-i-report-map-related-issues) or let us know about the changes.
Update: it's getting there The latest update gives much better routes that appear to follow bike paths. Good job, hammerhead team! The routes could still be better but it's getting there! Still no multiple routes option though. Only gives one route.
Hammerhead September 14, 2015Hi Travis, multiple routes are in beta test now, should be released in the next update. If you want to take a peak you could join our beta test program @ http://hammerhead.helpshift.com/a/hammerhead-one/?s=beta-program
Very disappointed. Does not sync reliably with the device. Have had no luck on rides to get the navigation working. Have emailed twice and no response or customer service either. Feel a bit cheated!
Hammerhead September 21, 2015Hi Arun, Since your last comment, we have made large strides into the product. Would you please take a look at the current version of the app and see if it is working for your needs. As for the bluetooth connection we have improved that too, please let us know if it is still giving you trouble, then i will send in a replacement.
Still needs work Just got my HH1 about a week and a half ago. It sync'd up immediately with my LG G3 then I had an issue with the first update. Something happened during the upload and I had to abort, so the power button stayed red and I couldn't do anything with the HH1. As an experiment I plugged in the power cord and I was able to reset the unit and load the update. After that, the HH1 has been a bit clunky. The app is also clunky. It's great for point to point navigation, but for loops, it's dreadful. Still needs work.
Hammerhead September 21, 2015Hi Chris, since your last comment, a lot of changes have gone into the app, please give the app a spin and let us know if it still gives you problem, if the problem persists, please send an email to email@example.com and i will send in a replacement for you
Missing basic functionality Can't import gpx files to follow, and can't affect routing within the app without tortuously adding waypoints. Pretty much useless for long rides and unfamiliar territory
Hammerhead September 21, 2015Hi Dave, GPX import is now available in the app, please give the app a spin let us know if it works for you
Good thing updates are coming... Because right now, its insisting on me going on busiest traffic that exists in the city, with it not letting me use anywhere on the actual bike path as any one of the 50 waypoint I manually tried to set up. Can't wait for the patch.
Hammerhead September 21, 2015Hi Kim, we have been hard at work fixing and updating the app. We are now beta testing the multiple bike route selection, if you wish to take a peek into what is coming up to the play store you can join our beta program @ http://hammerhead.helpshift.com/a/hammerhead-one/?s=beta-program
I have removed my 2 previous reviews. I am based in the UK and have taken the HH to 2 towns testing with the following:- iPhone 4S iPhone 6 Asus ME176CX. Initially all devices paired, followed routes for some of the distance but never the full journey, occasionally did not follow the route at all. Now all devices pair but do not start to follow a route and dropout (red state on Led's) after a short period. I am of the opinion that the device and software where bought to market to early and am disappointed and there is so much potential, but my patience has run out. Do not buy yet
Hammerhead September 14, 2015Hi Stuart, I am sorry to hear that, would you give us another chance and try it with our latest apps on both iOS and Android
Great idea but won't work for me! When I first got it Hammerhead paired with my Samsung phone. Now it doesn't! Once turned on It will not shut off, can't update the thing & still will not talk to my phone. I waited 2 years for this thing. Maybe it's too simple. I wasted my money! I have 2 Garmin GPS units (Touring Plus & the 810) I find easier to work & program for tour rides. Never had a problem.
Hammerhead September 21, 2015Hi John, since your last comment, we have made a lot of changes int the app, please give the app another spin and let us know how it worked for you. If you device continues to be a problem, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and i will send you a replacement
It just doesn't work. I have tried and tried. The updates have slightly improved a few issues but the problem is it just doesn't guide you accurately enough to be reliable. Just did a sportive, took over an hour to set the route, loaded up and it didn't get more than 2 directions right, just continual re-routing. I've ordered a new Garmin.
Hammerhead June 15, 2015Hey, Can you try the latest update (1.2.1) ? Thanks!
I really want it to be amazing but.... I have been super excited for the hammerhead since I first saw it online. I made my purchase and waited. I just got it a few weeks ago and I have yet to use it. Planning even a basic route on the app is a laborious chore. It took me 20+ minutes to plot a big loop from my apartment down the bike paths and back only to notice at the very end that back on way point 4 that it routed me out onto a freeway and not on the bike path. The concept is amazing but need to partner with Mapmy folks to make it viable.
So disappointed I recieved my hammerhead after waiting over a year and first thing it did was freeze. The plastic on it was loose and flawed when it arrived. I finally got it to turn on and it crashes EVERYTIME. I sent an email to the hammerhead support explaining my problem when i received it 10 days ago and again a week ago. Still no reply. It updates everyday but it still crashes everytime i put in a route. I desperately want this to work its such a great idea but as of right now im so disappointed and i lost faith...
Not ready for primetime My original device came and after updating the firmware it was immediately bricked. They sent me a replacement unit rather quickly from the New York City office, but the app constantly crashes, the device itself loses pairing, and the hardware itself then becomes unusable. I assume I will be able to re pair this unit after the battery dies as it isn't exhibiting the strange behavior the first one was, but I'm guessing this is all a case of Android development being lower priority than iOS.
