STRESSED OVER THAT LONELY WALK HOME AFTER DARK?
It’s nothing to be ashamed of: that walk home after dark causes anxiety, even fear, in more people than care to admit it. Even if you walk the same route several times a week, it can still feel intimidating.
Anxiety is hard to control, but that’s exactly what Safetowalk aims to do.
Fear and anxiety are usually amplified by two key elements: darkness and being alone.
While Safetowalk can’t control the sun, it can help you feel less lonely and give you some effective tools that actually make that walk home safer.
STW’s “WALK WITH ME" FUNCTION.
Safetowalk’s “walk with me” feature hooks you up to a “guardian” you have selected for the duration of that walk home. A “guardian” is person you trust, eg. a parent, sibling, partner or friend. The guardian does not need to download the Safetowalk app; they simply receive a with a “walk with me request” SMS message from you when you head for home. By accepting your invitation, they get a live link to a map where they can follow your journey home.
ANXIETY IS A TWO-HEADED BEAST.
Often the anxiety associated with that walk home is felt by the walker, but also by the person(s) waiting for the return of a loved one. Safetowalk gives a sense of empowerment, and by connecting people who care for each other, reduces that sense of being at the mercy of unseen forces that we often feel in these situations.
BUT WHAT IF “SOMETHING” HAPPENS ON THAT WALK HOME?
Fortunately, most of the time nothing happens, and that stress was all for nothing.
But... we can never be sure, right?
Safetowalk offers two progressive safety tools, that give a new safety lining to that walk home after dark.
THE "REC" FUNCTION.
Is that car driving past you for the second time a potential threat?
Is somebody following you, or... are you just imagining it?
Just to be sure, press the REC button on your Safetowalk app.
Your camera starts recording video, streaming the content straight to the cloud. If you want, you can send the video to a guardian, so they know that you’re feeling a bit apprehensive, and can see why from your video. You can even talk while recording your video:
“I’m not sure, but this guy I was talking with at the convention, “Alex”, may be following me. See? He’s walking behind me now in his blue vest”.
If something were to happen to your phone, these images are already on our server, and may be important for law enforcement or judicial officials to put somebody who threatened you, off the streets for a spell.
THE "SOS" FUNCTION.
If a situation escalates on that walk home and you feel directly threatened?
Press SOS immediately. This will activate your phone to call the police.
Safetowalk knows the emergency numbers in all countries, so if you happen to be on vacation in, say, Thailand? No problem, you’ll soon be speaking to law enforcement people no matter which country you’re in.
SAFETOWALK IS NOT AN IMPREGNABLE SHIELD.
Sadly, Safetowalk cannot remove all potential sources of danger from our streets, nor is it a substitute for common sense. It is always important to know your surroundings and be aware of what’s going around you. But if you do walk home after dark, or through an unfamiliar city, a new sensation of not feeling quite so alone, and having a few simple buttons to push should you need them? That can feel comforting.
A FREE TRIAL AWAITS YOU.
Safetowalk was found by us, two dads who want our daughters to be able to move around our urban landscape freely… but safely.
That’s why we’re delighted to keep an eye out for our lovely girls when they ask us to.
Would you like that feeling too, either as a person walking home at night, or as a person waiting for the safe return home of a loved one?
Download a free Safetowalk trial, learn how to use the app (requires a tiny bit of practice, but it’s quite intuitive), and make Safetowalk an anxiety-reducer for your loved ones too.
