This app is for you to build your own dictionary and make your learning experience a breeze. It's completely free, no ads & no strings attached. Personal dictionary. Learn any language you want.
So how to use it?
1. Create own vocabulary list
On first run the app asks you to create your first vocabulary list. Special dialog pops up where you have to name the new vocabulary list and choose source and target languages (all google translator's languages are available). Choosing right source and target languages is very important, because this information is used later to automatically translate new words and to generate correct audio with pronunciation.
2. Add words you want to remember.
We have words list, but something is not right, the list is empty. Let's fix it quickly. To add a new words just press big round plus button at the bottom. Another dialog pops up. There are two empty text fields with source and target languages. Enter the word you want to translate in the first text field. Below you can see small blue arrow. Press it! Wow it just translated your word. But wait that's not all, look at the bottom. There are some animated images to choose from. Select on of them. Now your word has an animated image (gif) associated with it. Cool, but what if you want to add some extra information to the word?
That's easy! There are tabs at the bottom: Notes and Tags. These names are pretty much self explanatory. Notes tab is used to add extra text to the word for example: ipa notation, example sentence etc. The Tags tab is helpful as well. It lets you to add meta-data to your entries, and later filter words by tags. Tags filtering is mega useful when you are in learning mode( I will explain that more thoroughly in the next step). To save newly created word just press save button. Much better, now our list has some entries. Touch your new word to display info card. Touch speaker icon to hear the pronunciation. Cool!
3. Learn and repeat you words.
You have your vocabulary list, it's time to learn! Swipe left from the edge to display menu. Choose learning mode. Here you can select which lists you want to use during learning session. Words can be filtered by tags. So if your words are tagged you can select one of tags to choose words just with that tag. There are few learning modes: test, writing and flashcards. Other options let you select number of questions, show/hide gif or play sounds for target/source languages. Are you ready? Press "start session" button and learn!
4. Backup your lists.
Everything looks good so far. But what if I bought a new phone and want my list at the new device. No worries! Keepest has built-in integration with Google Drive. Go to Settings menu. You can see two buttons: "send to Google Drive" and "download from Google drive". When you press send to google drive your vocabulary lists are exported as file with special extension *.keep. Keepest can read and create files with .keep extension. Now your words are safe in the cloud. Take your second device, install Keepest and just simply press "download from Google Drive" button. Google Drive's dialog pops up where you can find your previously exported file.
This is just brief description of Keepest's capabilities. The app has much more to offer, but it's up to you to find out what.
I constantly work on improving this app. Open source code is available on GitHub.
