Rakuten Link's basic features
■Calls: Voice and video calls
Rakuten Mobile subscribers can use unlimited calls and SMS to Rakuten Link users, as well as to other mobile networks and landline numbers in Japan and in 66 designated countries and regions through Rakuten Link. Calls / SMS to mobile phones and landlines including other carriers in Japan are free when calling to a Japanese number.

■Messages: Fun group messages
You can create chat groups with other Rakuten Link users for up to 100 people, and share photos, videos, and documents, as well as messages.

■Discovery: Find new services with recommendation! Access your favorite services anytime!
Use a variety of Rakuten services and partner services from Rakuten Link. Take advantage of the favorites feature and quickly access the services you love, and get service recommendations relevant to you through our AI-driven recommendation engine.
Additionally, enjoy games with no downloads necessary.

■Missions: Earn points by using the app and participating in campaigns!
Earn Rakuten points by using the app and participating in exciting campaigns. You can also check Start 1000, SPU (Super Point Up program), and the completion status of Start Bonus.

■Wallet: Check Rakuten point status and access payment services easily

* Free calls and free messages in overseas are available in 66 designated countries and regions. When roaming outside the 66 designated countries and regions, Rakuten Link only works over Wi-FI.
* Calls from Japan to overseas, or from overseas to overseas are charged on pay-as-you-go basis. (SMS is free for 66 overseas designated countries and regions).
* Using Link in Japan or in the 66 designated countries and regions does not count towards your domestic or overseas roaming data usage.
* You cannot call emergency services in Japan or overseas via Rakuten Link when roaming internationally.
* Calls and messages are available in low-speed data mode as well.
* Please note that the usage fees, overseas roaming (data communication) and international calling, international SMS and international calling unlimited service areas are subject to change without notice in future.

so very terrible. phone rarely rings. my wife and i have to call each other back and forth 4 or 5 times to get through. call quality sucks. frequent hangups while talking. seems to interfere with other apps (like LINE.) and you CAN NOT set custom ring tones. there is no support available in their stores. just a hot mess. it's free and so was the phone, but i wish i was still paying 1500yen a month for YMobile (which was super good.)

Most annoying app ever. Overly poluted with a constant barrage of in app ads that cant be cleared and prevent you from actually knowing if youve missed a call or txt msg. If i didnt need a Japanese phone for work i wouldve trashed this app and the rakuten phone it came hardwired and preinstalled on ages ago.

Sometimes OK, most of the time subpar. There are not only so many advertisements in the app between messages, after calls, so much that it feels like one of those spam apps. Call quality is substandard. There are so many times when the other party has difficulty in hearing you or vice versa, even when connected to wifi. The only advantage is that you get free calls and sms within Japan
