It doesn't work. simple as that. my phone fails to read my card which is valid and I get an error message telling me to go to my Ward office to get a new card issued, which of course cost money and takes time. I live overseas so it's not as if I'm going to catch an airliner, and go to Japan just to get a my number card to be issued, which takes about 3 weeks anyway. ridiculous!

I keep getting this error: " The password/PIN for the user authentication for your Individual Number Card is locked. If you can use the password/ PIN for the digital signature for your Individual Number Card, you can initialize it using the smartphone app "JPKI PIN reset" and the convenience store kiosk terminal. Conversely, you can visit your local municipal office to unlock your password/PIN. (EA0040-0038) " I don't understand why I can't just reset my pin in the app.

Some translations are poorly done. It follows your device's UI language so there's no way to see the correct Japanese terms if your phone's language isn't in English. After scanning my card and entering my PIN, the screen tries to load a page in a webview, flickers, and fails to load the page. It's unfortunate that we have to entrust our personal information to companies like these.
