Review from phil turner
Class app, works a treat on barvia TV and phone.
Used to be awesome. New version breaks compatibility on all of my TV boxes. I can sort of make it work, but I lose a good chunk of the top of the screen. Also, when on my phone, now when making notifications, it will interrupt the live stream and not remember where it is on the list. Please bring back the classic version!
Adding Chrome Cast to last update was big improvement. But, not very stable after Android Oreo update. App keeps forcing focus back to live stream video, away from whatever I'm trying to do inside NHK app. Very irritating.
The new UI is horrible. Endless scrolling to find specific episodes. And halfway through most shows, it freezes up, and the only way to get it going again is to restart my phone. This only happens with this app. Stop changing what doesn't need to be changed!
I don't like the new UI, it seems like the app is trying to be just like the website. There are too many things going on at once. A description of what the different tabs are would be helpful as well as the descriptions of the shows, I tapped on a Journeys in Japan to see what it was about and it only took me to the list of other Journeys in Japan. The white color is blinding and for some reason the live stream is in the middle of the live stream program list, I scrolled to the top and thought I lost it but no it is moving with the time slot. Making notifications is difficult now, there is lots of jumping around. The previous version was perfect, simple and all the programs were easily accessible. We can go on the website if we wish to see things from the website, the NHKWORLD TV app should just be for TV.
I regret updating to this version bcos I keep getting msg "Cannot play the video". I cannot watch the full video and it really is frustrating. How do I go back to the previous version?
This app used to be awesome, but after the last update, the banner at the top will not hide meaning that I cant see most of the picture, and apart from that it is incompatible with all of my other android boxes/devices. I love NHK World and will probably continue to watch it through my browser (which does not give as good a picture quality as the app, but at least I can see the whole picture...), but sadly after sending this review I will be uninstalling it from all of my devices...
