The app is very nice and allows for easy QR code payment. The problem I've run into is initial funding and subsequent top up. The banks don't seem to be very familiar with how to do this. I visited 3 different banks in Phnom Penh until success. Then I spent 45 minutes in one bank in Siem Reap and was required to pay a fee (albeit small). All this hassle and confusion despite Bakong Tourist signs in their lobbies and stickers on the cashier windows.

Setting up is easy, but you got to "top up" your account before you can actually pay, even though the credit card is linked already. They charge an additional 2 USD fee for the top up. You will also most likely will end up with a remainder on the account. Maybe some time in the future they figure out that contact less payment works even faster and without ridiculous fees.

when it works, it's great, but when it doesn't, it becomes an inconvenience. seems to return an "internal error" message with no reason to why it fails. this happens when trying to exchange between riel and usd, withdrawing money into the app from a card, and sometimes during paying via qr code. always ensure you have physical cash as you may be in a position where the app won't work.
