A very dangerous cat killed most mice.
Mice were very afraid, and they just squeezed in dark caves.
One day, the cat went out for vacation.
Mice organized a general council to consider what measures they could take to outwit the cat.
An old mouse got up and said: “I venture to propose that a small bell be procured, and attached by a ribbon round the neck of the Cat. We should always know when she was about, and could easily retire.”
This proposal met with general applause.
Old mouse continued: “Who is to bell the Cat?”
The mice looked at one another and nobody spoke. They were terrified with the given idea and the council was dissolved.
