# Description

The Molecular Calculator is designed to calculate the molecular and reciprocal weight of any chemical formula.

usage:

* Enter a chemical formula the standard way.

* Symbols can be seperated by blanks.

* Simplified structures are also allowed.

* Formulas cointaining a multiplication (such as hydrates) should be entered without the dot.

* Numbers composed by an integer and a fraction (like 1 1/2) should be replaced by a fraction (3/2) or using decimal notation (1.5).

* The chemical formulas are case sensetive.

Examples:

* H2O

* Ns2SO4

* Fe3[Fe(CN)6]2

* HOOC-CH2-C(OH)(COOH)-CH2-COOH

* H3C-(CH2)7-CH

Requirements

## Octave

This is launches Octave for Android. Octave is like Matlab (trademark of Mathworks), but free (as in freedom) software. Not some similar program, but really Octave running natively.

The app is now free (as in $) to use, but a donation is appreciated to keep things going.

You are required to get the Octave Main Package (com.octave.main) to use this.

You are required to get the Octave Gnuplot Package (com.octave.gnuplot) to support plotting.

There are many additional packages (com.octave.*) for use.

This is a different sort of app. Unpacking the executable and other files necessary for Octave to run will take awhile when you install or upgrade this, but will be worth it. Whether this is installed to the sdcard or to internal storage, the executables and libraries will take up around 100MB of internal storage either way.

You can add .m files and a .octaverc startup file in an external storage directory setup for you. Often at /sdcard/GNUOctave/home.

Your latest plots (.png files) can be found in an external storage directory setup for you. Often at /sdcard/GNUOctave/intents.

You will be running in a fake chroot of sorts which includes Octave and many of the programs you expect to find in a standard GNU/Linux (read Debian) install. The fake chroot is split between your external/shared partition (often /sdcard) and your internal (/data/data/com.octave) to save space.

Plot commands and edit commands fire off intents to use whatever image viewer or text editor you have.

Calculator extends the 4 function calculator. It's simple and uncluttered, but gives you access to advanced functions with a swipe. Graphing, matrices, base conversion, and more are at your finger tips, and only when you need them.

Calculator also has a widget, a floating calculator, and 7 (and counting) alternative themes. It also runs on Google Glass.

History:

Calculator was started in June 2012, by Will (myself) and Sean, as developer and designer respectfully. Over 4 months, we added basic support for matrices, graphing, and history, and in October 2012, Calculator became officially included within CyanogenMod (and most custom ROMs soon thereafter). In January 2013, Nick joined the endeavor, redesigning the graph page, hex page, and has, more recently, created all of the available themes. In September 2013, Rudy joined for a short time and greatly improved the matrix logic, adding support for functions, order of operations, and more. And, of course, the vast language support has all been thanks to users. The calculator has been, since its start, open source, and is always looking for more helping hands.

Advice:

Because the app is intended as a full replacement, it's recommended that you disable your default calculator. Go into Settings, Apps, and you will be able to disable it where you would normally find Uninstall (Requires Android 4.1+).

## Aeronautical Calculator

Calculate non standard atmospheric characteristics (according to the 1976 International Standard Atmosphere model), convert various altitude and airspeed types with regard to sea level atmospheric conditions.

Correct up to geometric altitude of 84 kilometers.

1) Enter mean sea level characteristics (temperature, pressure).

2) Enter chosen altitude (geometric or geopotential) or gravity, press 'done' and view atmospheric properties at

chosen altitude \ gravity.

3) Enter chosen airspeed (true or calibrated or equivalent; up to the local value of the speed of sound) or dynamic

pressure or mach number (up to mach one), press 'done' and view airspeed type converted at current altitude and

mean sea level characteristics.

Notice:

1) Long click each variable label to get information regarding that variable.

2) Use right side spinners to change input / output unit types.

Remarks:

1) Airspeed conversion is performed under assumption that air is compressible, isentropic (subsonic; mach

number < 1.0) and dry with a constant specific heat ratio.

2) If at current atmospheric conditions, input airspeed results in mach number greater then 1 - calculation is

performed according to mach number 1.

3) Density is calculated using a perfect gas relationship.

4) Geopotential altitude input is defined according to standard day (ISA).

5) The mean molecular weight is not corrected for geometric altitude above 80km.

Each of these parameters is given in metric and english units.

* results for geometric altitudes between 80km and 86km are corrected for mean molecular weight ration which is not 1. Note that many 1976 standard atmosphere tables are not corrected according to the mean molecular weight ratio, but they do mention that this correction should be done.

## Geodetics Calculator

The Geodetics Calculator is designed to solve the first ("direct") and second ("inverse") geodetic problems with an accuracy of 1e-6 meters over a range of 27 different reference ellipsoids and spheriods.

Background:

The first ("direct") geodetic problem is defined in the following manner: given a point (in terms of latitude and longitude) and a direction ("azimuth") and distance from that point to a second point, determine the location (in terms of latitude and longitude) of the second point.

The second ("inverse") problem is defined in the following manner: given two points (in terms of latitude and longitude), determine the direction ("azimuth") and length of a line (in our case, both a geodesic curve (a great circle) and a rhumb line) that connects them.

Usage:

*To solve the first ("direct") geodetic problem, simply enter the origin point, fill direction and azimuth fields and press the Calculate button.

*To solve the second ("inverse") geodetic problem, simply enter the origin and destination points and press the Calculate button.

*In order to change the units in which the input or output fields are given, simply choose a different measurment unit and press the Calculate button.

Terminology:

*Geoid Altitude output field rtepresents the height of the local geoid (EGM96 = Earth Gravity Model 1996) above mean sea level at the origin and destination.

*Forward output field represents the azimuth from origin point to destination point.

*Backward output field represents the azimuth from destination point to origin point.

*Direct output field represents the length of a straight line ("geodesic curve" / "great circle") connecting the origin and destination point, along the reference ellipsoid.

*Rhumb output field represents the length of a rhumb line connecting the origin point to the destination point, along the "meridional earth spheroid model" (radius of 6367.445[km]).

*Latitude and Longitude output fields represent the location of the point located at a given azimuth and distance from the origin point (they are given in degrees with a decimal notation).

Notes:

*Origin and Destination points location can be entered in two different notations:

> degrees decimal notation: choosing "decimal" would require the location input field to be entered in degrees in decimal notation, eg.: 32.156845 or -4.563542.

> degrees/minutes/seconds notation: choosing "d/m/s" would require the location input field to be entered in degrees/minutes/seconds notation, eg.: 32 50 6 or -14 29 50. notice that a space should be enter between the degrees, minutes and seconds.

*Longitude is given in the boundary of [-180.0, 180.0] degrees. Negative longitude represents the western hemisphere and positive longitude represents the eastern hemisphere.

*Latitude is given in the boundary of [-90.0, 90.0] degrees. Negative latitude represents the southern hemisphere and positive latitude represents the northern hemisphere.

*If the origin and destination points are the same, than the distance between them would be zero, and the azimuth between them would be NaN ("not a number").

*If the distance entered by the user is such that the reference ellipsoid would be encircled, than the calculator would take it into consideration.

*Output fields are labeled using indent font, to seperate them from input fiields.

*Geoid altitude is calculated using a bilinear interpolation performed upon a 0.25 degrees grid of point value in a "tide-free" system. The Geoid is given relative ot the WGS84 ellipsoid. Maximum error in Geoid altitude is one meter.

*Rhumb line distance is calculated using earth spheroid radius of 6367435[km]. Deviation from other calculators might originate from the usage of a different earth radius.
