About this app

Experience the magic of GPS audio walks, cycles, drives and even boat rides with VoiceMap tours in over 350 destinations worldwide. They’re like podcasts that move with you, to tell stories about what you’re seeing right now.

VoiceMap’s tours are produced by insightful local storytellers, including journalists, filmmakers, novelists, podcasters, and tour guides. Sir Ian McKellen has even created a tour. It's around London's West End, where he’s performed for over 50 years.

• Explore at your own pace. Start and stop tours whenever you like, then use the resume option to pick up exactly where you left off.
• With GPS autoplay, you can focus on your surroundings, not the screen. Tap on Start, and let VoiceMap guide you.
• VoiceMap works offline. After you download a tour, the audio will be available offline along with an offline map.
• If you do go off in the wrong direction, VoiceMap plays an audio alert, and you can follow the map on your screen to the next location.
• Listen to tours as many times as you like both in the destination and in virtual tour mode at home.
• With over 1,000 free and paid tours, VoiceMap offers huge variety

Press Reviews:

“High-quality self-guided walking tours...Narrated by local experts, they provide insight into corners of the city sometimes overlooked by regular guided tours.”
Lonely Planet

“We may be biased, but could there be anything more helpful than having a journalist in your pocket when touring a new city? How about a historian, a novelist or just a really passionate local? VoiceMap culls city-specific stories from them all and fits them neatly into walking tours.”
New York Times

I love the offline access, the great uses of the technology and the feeling of recreating an in-person walking tour. The only downside is that the clarity of each tour's narrator greatly affects the enjoyment of the experience, so be sure to preview each tour before buying it. You can also share one tour between multiple people if your device supports multiple audio output. (On Samsung, swipe down and tap "Media Output" and enable the checkbox for all connected Bluetooth headphones)

I rarely to review apps, but I think this app is absolutely phenomenal, especially for travelers. Instead of paying for expensive tours with a live guide and being herded around through a city with 20 other people, you can do it in your own for only $6 or so and pause for breaks whenever you like. I did 3 tours on a recent trip to Berlin and each was awesome. Can't wait to use it in my future travels and will even probably try at least one of the tours in my home city (Los Angeles).

Great idea, poor execution. I bought the tour for Zagreb, Croatia. I gave the app location access all the time (as requested) but it wasn't able to locate me closely enough to auto play the tour. I tried to go to the locations and manually play the tour but the play button didn't work. I tried to read the script but it wouldn't advance pay the third location and told me that a tour preview only showed the first three stops. When/if the bugs get fixed, this could be a great app.

What's new

Version 10.2 helps you choose the best tours more easily and download them faster.

There are over 1,100 VoiceMaps now, in 365 destinations, and with this update you can:

• Get more relevant search results for more detailed queries
• Easily view all the tours you've searched for on a single map
• Start tours in a hurry, without downloading the offline map

We've made downloads more reliable too – and we've made sure of this by testing them with travel eSIMs and weak hotel WiFi.
