Archwilio – Exploring the archaeology of Wales
Drawing information from over one hundred thousand records of archaeological sites in the Historic Environment Records of the Welsh Archaeological Trusts, the Archwilio app is a great way to find out more about the history and archaeology of Wales.
Through use of GPS you can discover the sites around you anywhere in Wales. No 3G coverage? Simply view the area you intend to visit while you have access to wi-fi and the Archwilio app will store the information for you to view when you are out on your visit.
If you encounter something which isn’t shown on the Archwilio app then you can make a new record or edit an existing one, take a photograph and send it through to the local Archaeological Trust. Your information can be added to the records, eventually to appear on the Archwilio app.
A summary of the terms and conditions is available here: http://www.cofiadurcahcymru.org.uk/arch/pdfs/SummaryTandCs.pdf

Amazing and useful. So many sites listed on here, it's amazing how much is on here. Not all of the points of interest have much information but that will get better over time. Also this is a Google app so its a cracking tool from which to start learning about history. I have stood by a remote mound and found out more about it using this app. Highly recommended to fuel interest.

Great app... when it works This is a fantastic app and would get five stars if it worked consistently. Unfortunately it keeps crashing and often won't load. Still well worth downloading, but I hope the technical issues can be rectified.

Faulty but useful Really like this app when out and about but it does crash a little too often which is annoying. Also the system for uploading pictures and information about sites doesn't seem to work - info disappears after completing process. Please fix

Engrossing Love this app which gives me so much info, which in some cases is for sites I didn't know existed. Glad that the gps is now disabled when it's shut down so I'm voting it a 5

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Archwilio lists every known archeological feature in Wales on an easy to use map. Very good. It also promises, Tripadvisor style, to let you comment and upload photos of the sites - except, no matter how often you click on "done" and "save", this does not work. Bad. Now for the Ugly: your GPS switches to always on, even if you manually switch it off. Even after you uninstall the app. It always switches itself back on. So long, battery life. It's almost like a virus.

Potentially a great app Had some trouble with it leaving GPS on when not in use. Looks like explicitly exiting app avoids this. Would be nice if GPS was off when not actually using app. Beeps annoyingly on every action though comments suggest this should be fixed. Confused by data usage message. Surely it should be able to upload later when wifi available. Has crashed a few times while attempting uploads. Way too many key presses required to submit an item with pictures.
Looking good even though it's go more to go The interface is great, a fresh change to all the other apps out there. I can see it's got a long way to go yet but if others get off their bums and have a go at supporting this app rather than complaining (can you do a better app? , if so feel free) I look forward to seeing this app progress and it's a great idea.
Useful but still beeps incessantly Useful access to database of ancient monuments, sites, places of interest. Many places have multiple entries, which is irritating. Although the latest version of the app claims not to make all those stupid beeping noises, mine still does. No option to silence it, either.
Great app but doesn't close! Great app but drains like there's no tomorrow! Downloaded and ran app worth it 100% battery then closed it. 1hr later battery warning. App was still running! Tried again and proved it doesn't close but keeps running in background ! Needs to be sorted. 2 stars until non close issue is sorted.
So much potential And a wonderful idea for an app. Maps take too long to load and render. Some tiles remain white and never load. And unless you have knowledge of sites around Wales its difficult to spot sites no obvious markers on the map. Also makes silly noises with no option to switch them off. Though its great that it relies on user interaction to build the archive of sites and photos etc the app feels very much like its still in beta mode. Certainly far from the finished article. Let's hope for regular updates
Great app The app works well on my note it shows lots of ancient sites around my area. This is a historians dream and novices world of wonder. Its the only app of its kind so get out there and use it by uploading photos or monuments near yourself so others can enjoy them. Well done everyone who worked on this app, I love it.
A fine start. Some entries seem imported wholesale from unverified anecdotal sources but no doubt this will resolve with editorial input.
