A powerful tool that offers a ton of data, some locked behind a paywall. The app, being called Dark Sky, interestingly doesnt have a dark (black, not dark gray) theme. The data visualizations are easy enough to use but when compared to Weather Underground, seem to be lacking some design flare. The globe in Dark Sky, though, is interesting and unique when compared to other services, although I'm sure some map start up out there offers a black themed globe.
The forecast widget is constantly showing the forecast for some other part of the country. Also I have received alerts saying snow would be starting in 30 minutes, but it's over 70f outside so snow is impossible. When I email support they tell me to just uninstall and reinstall. But that doesn't solve the problem. Therefore I am giving this 1 star because of the inaccuracies and LACK of support.
Update: it use to work fine on my Samsung S, however on my Samsung J727 does not. Which for a wheelchair user weather change notifications are critical. This review was written when I using a Samsung S: It was amazing during hurricane Harvey when it came through Houston Texas. It was only off minute here and there on the rain notifications rarely. The only thing I don't care for too much is the radar view but that is purely personal, it is both very functional and accurate. I am in a wheelchair and so to know about rain in a few moments is a incredibly important tool to my daily life.
So not only are the weather predictions still off with mostly late noticiations now I keep getting "unable to get forcast" for the temp in the notification bar. Sigh. iOS version is much better and consistent. Idk why this version isn't getting the love the iOS one is. Super annoying. I feel bad one starring this app and developer. The app used to be so great. Today there is a weather advisory in Chicago. I only know about it because I downloaded another weather app. Fail.
Severe weather alters do not work at all. Forecasts on widget for precipitation amount often do not match in app forecast. Forecasts for snow fall or rain amounts often show wildly incorrect amounts (8-12in of snow when all other apps / services predict 1-2in). Missing basic features present in other apps. Not worth paying for when other apps now offer Hyperlocal forecasts and these other features for free with ads or a similar cost (under $5/yr) without ads.
This weather app is kinda different in the way it presents data. It's not all pretty. But because of that, it loads fast. Weather is presented as a timeline. There's a subscription, but it's cheap. So far, it's been pretty accurate. I like the simplicity, as well. One complaint would be barometric pressure reported in mb regardless of settings. I'll revaluate it's performance over time and report back.
