About this app

***** Important Update for Film ViewFinder app ******

1. WE ARE WORKING ON IT. We are aware that recent Android updates have caused issues with saving still images in the app. We are sorry and we want you to know – this is being actively fixed.
We are rebuilding the app from the ground up to ensure full compatibility with the latest Android versions.

2. TEST THE NEW BETA APP. A new version is already available for you to try as an Open Beta.

How to join the Open Beta:
-- Visit this app's Google Play listing
-- Scroll down to the "Join the beta" section near the bottom of the page
-- Tap "Join" and you will receive the updated beta version

We especially need your confirmation that image capture is working reliably on your device. If saving photos works for you in the beta, please let us know in a review or feedback — it helps us enormously.

3. WHAT FEATURES NEXT? The beta currently includes live camera preview, frame guides, and image capture. Many more features are on the way. If there is a feature from the current version that you rely on and would like to see prioritized, please tell us in your feedback. Your input directly shapes what we build next.

Thank you for your patience and loyalty.

Magic ViewFinder presents you a precise framing preview for the real camera/lens combination you will be shooting with, right where you stand with your phone/tablet. It simulates the framing of large & medium format camera / lens and helps thousands of professionals in photography at the preproduction.

PLEASE READ: this app does not turn your smartphone into an external monitor, but operates as a stand-alone directors viewfinder.

If you have any issues please email us for a quick support: dev@kadru.net

The app seems to work well, but it fails to write any data to exif - in my opinion this makes it pointless as a viewfinder, because I can't get location data for any shots. Meaning the app is basically functioning like digital zoom binoculars. Will update review if this is fixed, but in the meantime not very useful for me. Edit: I have all permissions allowed and, nevertheless, no success.

Seems to depend on your phone. No complaints from other users on this. Check your permissions

Like other reviewers and the developer have noted, this app is not fully functional on all Android phones (e.g., my phone, Samsung Galaxy S21 FE). I work with medium format and the app cannot render the entire field of view for much of the focal length I need. If this is a hardware limitation, it seems that user should be able to get around it by some sort of custom profile options (and perhaps an external wide angle lens as well). But since these options are not available, this app is of no use for someone like me.

Mostly a good app, but VERY difficult to exit. You must swipe in from an edge to show the "back, home, app-switcher" icons, then hit back twice to exit. The icons appear directly over the focal length selector, which means about 50% of the time you end up changing the focal length rather than exiting. The easy solution would be to show the "back, home, app-switcher" controls at all times.

What’s new

Still image saving is now fully fixed. On top of that, we've packed in a new set of tools:

• Customizable focal length barrel with index marks
• Full in-device camera control: exposure, focus, flash, white balance
• Tap-to-focus with visual feedback

Thank you for your support — more features are on the way!
