Nothing beats drawing by hand, but this is the next best thing. Kana Draw, combined with a flash card app, is a great way to learn Hiragana and Katakana. My only recommendation is that a few of the Hiragana symbols use a font more common with machines (text computers etc) vs what is taught for handwriting them (example SO in Hiragana). Maybe have traditional hand writing fonts as an available option.

Great app, it's been very helpful in helping me memorize both hiragana and katakana. The only improvement I would suggest is adding an option to have the romanji displayed with the corresponding character. It would help beginners link the correct sound with the correct character. Otherwise, a wonderful and surprisingly addictive app.

The repetitive nature of this app is helping me remember how to write the characters MUCH better than many apps I have tried- especially since changing the setting to have it sound it out first. Repetition is exactly what I needed!
