About this app

Muzei is a live wallpaper that gently refreshes your home screen each day with famous works of art. It also recedes into the background, blurring and dimming artwork to keep your icons and widgets in the spotlight. Simply double touch the wallpaper or open the Muzei app to enjoy and explore the artwork in its full glory.

Alternatively, you can choose your favorite photos from your own gallery or other apps to use on your home screen. To keep your wallpaper fresh, Muzei will rotate through your favorite photos every few hours.

Finally, Muzei is developer-friendly. All the code is available at http://code.muzei.co and Muzei even offers a simple API that allows you to build your own wallpaper source. For API details, visit http://api.muzei.co.

If you use a third party Legacy Source, you must disable Battery Optimizations on that app to allow it to continue to load artwork. See https://medium.com/muzei/muzei-3-0-and-legacy-sources-8261979e2264 for more details.

Muzei now includes a watch face for Android Wear, so you can see your latest wallpaper right on your wrist!

Made by Roman Nurik and Ian Lake, along with contributions from many in the Android community. Muzei is a transliteration of the Russian word музей, which means “museum.”

Featured artwork in Muzei is curated daily by our small staff and made possible thanks to WikiArt.org and its contributors.

This app is essential and one of the apps I've used the longest on Android (maybe 10+ years) but the settings need a HUGE overhaul. It's confusing to find any setting because it could be on any one of the 3 tabs and hidden behind either a button or a 3 dots menu. It's time to update the settings to be in one menu, this is way too confusing to use in 2022.

Honestly I love this app. The blurred background is awesome And the ability to only put it into view when wanted makes it a less noisy screen to look at. I adore it with the new Android 12 auto color match for the icons, but I wish I could set the time for the wallpaper to change. Like once a day or once every 12 hours or something. They change way too fast. Easily 5 stars If I could control the timing!!

Muzei already lets you control how frequently the Auto Advance happens via the timer icon in the upper right of the Sources screen. Muzei also integrates with Tasker to allow for triggering the wallpaper change based on any condition you want.

The app is great, but i have one issue that's really annoying. My setup is using a single home screen, a landscape image (using Reddit extension), and the phone is in portrait mode. Instead of displaying the center of the image, Muzei acts like I have two home screens and shows me the left side instead of the middle. I'm not quite sure how to fix this, but it's super annoying and I just want it to be centered. EDIT: Devs responded, I switched back to Nova Launcher and everything works fine now.

Muzei always centers the image in the space the launcher provides. Unfortunately, some launchers say there are two screens even if you only have one (and Muzei can't tell the difference). Third party launchers, such as Nova Launcher, have settings to disable wallpaper scrolling and always centers the image.

What's new

- Muzei now automatically swaps between a bottom navigation when in portrait and a navigation rail alongside the left side of the screen when in landscape
- Fixed a regression with the Tasker integration that was introduced in Muzei 3.4.4
- Fixed a number of crash issues in previous Muzei 3.4.5 builds, particularly on Android 4.4 devices

Note that live wallpaper apps crash on Android 12 Beta 1 due to https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/188636390 - please update to Android 12 Beta 2.
