I've been looking for a turn by turn offline navigation app for mountain biking and am happy to have found osmand. Imported a gpx of preferred trail and successfully tested it this morning. The only limitations being my phone (galaxy s3 mini). Loaded onto spare emergency phone and use strava on another. Tuen by turn istructions loud enough to hear. Cheap phone holder off eBay fitted to handlebars = Happy Days! Shall recommend to friends & family.
I never could get it to build a three point route. It couldn't find addresses. No house number support. It identified my present position as the street in back of me. No other navigator program ever did that. The help files seemed out of sync with the program. It kept adding orange point balls that I could not off the screen.
No End of Problems With Maps & Voices Didn't install basic map on install. Maps take ages to download & app doesn't respond - just shows a blank screen! Searching for a place finally displayed map, but UK postcodes absent and UK voice not working despite being selected. Won't navigate across a park in pedestrian mode unless straight line navigation selected. Doesn't always log config changes unless you exit & restart app. Storage locations confusing. Not detecting maps downloaded already. Wasted a day on this app, but it didn't work for me.
Found your app and am trying it out after using a couple of others for off line navigation. Looking for the best one for motorcycling, bicycle riding and hiking. Installed the basic map on two Android phones each, with the same state. (United States of America) One phone, older model, used for offline only for bicycling, has Android O.S. 4.1.2. Installed 'full' map. But application performs poorly. (Sluggish or slow.) Newer phone, used for motorcycle touring, has Android O.S. 5.1.0. Installed 'full' map, and application performs smoothly. (Well) Question: Is there a preferred O.S., Version, and RAM requirement that the App works best with? Not mentioned in Google Store catalogue description that I saw. Over all, from current testing done, I like the App!
Works very well for car navigation in Germany, UK & France using the offline maps. (I haven't tried walking or cycling.) Warns you when you exceed the speed limit :-) visually and audibly. A recent update removed Address and Favorites from the search function. It would be nice to have them back. The only way I can see to enter an address is as a destination or starting point. Contrast of notification bar at the top of the screen needs improving: White figures on light orange background are too hard to read, e. g., if you want to know what time it is while you're driving.
— Clickable icons on the map
— Powerful POI Filter Search: search restaurants by cuisine, campings with specific needs
— New OsmAnd Topo Style for cyclists and hikers
— Improved Trip recording (new settings)
— Improved navigation notifications (Android Wear)
— Many other improvements and bug fixes
