About this app

Welcome to OctoTranslator II!

Badly named though it may be (count the number of languages), OctoTranslator II is designed to work with Anki, the best (and free to Windows PC and Android users) flashcard program. Get Anki or AnkiDroid to get the most use out of OctoTranslator II. It differs from Octotranslator in that it uses Google Translate instead of Bing (Microsoft made it too difficult to use, so I quit).

What OctoTranslator II is:

OctoTranslator II is a translation application that can save spoken or written phrase translation pairs for export to and use with Anki.

What it does:

It can translate from and to many different languages. In a future update, I may expand the number of language choices (maybe. What do you want for free?). It can save and email the translations, including synthesized pronunciations of both the input and the output, to the user for importation into Anki. The email result files include instructions on how to import the flashcard contents properly to Anki.

How to use OctoTranslater II:

Open the app (you may already have).
Exit the Welcome document and select the input language and the output language.
Press the microphone button to speak a phrase to translate, or touch the input box below the microphone button and type a word or phrase.
Press Translate and OctoTranslator II will send your text to Googleto translate. The resulting translation will appear just below the input.
Press Spoken and it will pronounce your translation. You can then Save to card or not, as you please. If you do, you will be able to mail it to yourself to import to Anki.
To mail the results to yourself for importation to Anki, press Settings. Then press Send file. You will be asked if you want to delete the files after sending. Answer, then enter your email address.
Two other choices in the Settings form include changing the pitch and speed of the speech in the main page, and selecting a new input and/or output language.

Bugs and suggestions and your frequent, copious thanks can be sent to octotranslator@gmail.com. I might even read them, if I ever get an account named that.
