Extremely helpful This app by "Wildman" Steve Brill and friends is an incredibely helpful resource outdoors in the search for highly nutritious wild edibles. Steve is a vast wealth of information, stories and jokes in person that make wild foraging fun and easy to learn. This app filled with very clear photos and descriptions of identification is so easy to use and the next best thing to taking a tour with a very experienced forager. The app also includes delicious recipes for each wild edible!
Was an amazing app, but... The app went from easy to use in the field to high tech and slow... The previous version had much better pictures and easy access to info and didn't take so long to load them. I prefer the older version for speed, info, and pix. This went from a great app to a high tech and slow one. Not as useful in the field and harder to read due to pix in behind font... Bummed...
Used to work A recent upgrade demands that all photos be stored in my gallery. When I want to share pictures on facebook these app photos come up and don't allow me to access anything else. Deleted the photos and now the app can't work. This used to be an excellent app. A good example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Wild edibles Very informative&pictures help identify precisely
The Wild Edible app is nearly as informative as the AUTHOR Steve Brill in person. But of course nothing can replace the family friendly corny jokes and anecdotes. This has been my go to source of valuable ethnobotanical information and serves as the perfect companion and memory jogger after attending one of the "Wildmans" Urban wilderness excursions, since one can barely absorb the wealth of information he presents in person. The photos are clear and representative of the plant species discussed. The drop down menu format makes everything seem very tidy and indexed. My only complaint is that there should be alot more recipes since just looking at the app makes me hungry for some really Wild Edibles. I cant wait for the updates. Keep up the good work Professor Wildman!
No pics after update Steve Brill is very knowledgeable and has included tons of info in this app, such as: positive ID characteristics, info on similar plants/poisonous lookalikes, nutrition info, and even recipes (and more)! The photos and drawings are great. I would love to see a section where you can write your own notes into each plant entry. Update 6/13/15: I updated the app and now I can't see the photos. I downloaded them and they exist in the gallery on my phone, but not in the app. Happening on phone and tablet.
Fixes to image downloading.
