About this app

Navigation app for bicycle riders and a companion for http://zikes.website.

Marie, Jim and Luca like their holidays (and odd weekends) on a bicycle saddle. Last year they took their wheels to Toulouse and rode Canal du Midi. The May long weekend they hope to roll to Bruges. They typically spend a few days planning their journeys, dividing it into bite-size stretches, booking accommodation along the way, inspecting Street View for al-fresco dining or where to safely lock their bikes. They argue whether to go over the hill or go wrestle the bitter seaside breeze. They shift the routes left and right dodging the lorries and fumes. They look for parks, woods and canals, for regional cycle networks and when the day comes, they strap their phones to their bikes and ride their plan.

If you're like Marie, Jim or Luca, Zikes is for you!
If you think you lack that kind of grit, but, one gorgeous Sunday, would like to visit them on your bike and all that's stopping you is that you don't know which way won't get you stranded on a three lane roundabout, Zikes is for you.

Zikes is a relatively early (beta) work in progress (aren't they all?), but it's fully functional, useful, dedicated visual aid for bicycle riders. Features:
- ad hoc and pre-planned (with http://zikes.website) route navigation;
- rich, fine-grained route preferences (e.g.: hills vs flat, urban vs rural, see the screenshots);
- offline support (for basic navigation);
- weather forecast (e.g.: it will rain in 2hrs and 38km, better look for shelter);
- address lookup;
- automatic track recording (you can see where you've been);
- dynamic re-routing;

Note that Zikes is a one man shop. It is therefore resource-limited and only available in the core of Europe and California (see the screenshots).
