Everything you need to know about Linux is in this book. It thoroughly covers programming tools, system and network administration tools, the shell, editors, and LILO and GRUB boot loaders.
The database is local and static so there is no need for an internet connection to run the app. It will work even in the deepest of server rooms!
A search function is implemented with an external server. The server is located at www.linuxfunkar.se and uses TCP port 8754.
The technical reason for using an external server is performance due to the large index table needed. It would take a few minutes (or hours perhaps, I havn't really tried..) just to start the app if the index table was to be initiated locally. It would also add around 40-50MB to the app size AND 60-70MB of RAM required just to run the app.
It is possible to search for more than one matching word by separating the words with a space or a new line.
The GPL'd source is available at:
The app is available for free on Android market. It can also be downloaded directly at:
During the courses students will create the Space Travel Agency app step-by-step. To give them an idea of what they are building we uploaded a full version of the app.
Currently AT Computing offers two Android courses:
Android Development Fundamentals. During this course a basic version of the Space Travel Agency app is created. You will learn to use multiple activities, fragments, widgets, listviews, adapters, dialogs, databases, content providers, multiple threads, localization and internationalization framework, and handle device configuration changes and keeping state. During the course we will focus on how to use a responsive design approach for developing your app. The version created during the fundamentals course allows the user to select multiple destinations, invite a friend from their contacts, and checkout the journey.
Android Development Advanced. Continues where the Android Development Fundamentals course stopped. The Space Travel Agency app is expanded to allow the user to book the journey on a HTTP server and take pictures. You will learn to use the action bar, google support library, settings framework, notification framework, device sensors, 3rd party apps, apply animations, use HTTP services, create broadcast receivers, and use maps and location-based services.
Each exam holds 5 questions regarding the subjects covered in the course.
Currently the Course Examiner includes questions for the following courses:
UNIX/Linux part 1 (english and dutch)
LPI 101, 102, 201, and 202 (only in dutch)
Android Development Fundamentals (only in english)
LDAP (only in english)
