About this app

The use of Smittestopp is voluntary, and the app is one of many measures to limit the spread of coronavirus.

You will receive a message if you have been nearby someone who has coronavirus.

If you become infected, you can inform other app users. This way we can all take better care of those we surround us with.

You cannot see who or how many people you have been in proximity to, and they cannot see you.

If you share that you have been infected, other users cannot see your identity.

The app does not register data about your location.

Smittestopp is developed by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. Read more about the app on www.helsenorge.no/en/smittestopp

If you experience a problem, that you believe the developers of the App should be aware of, you can report it as an issue on GitHub: https://github.com/folkehelseinstituttet/Fhi.Smittestopp.App/issues

The app technically works fine. The problem is that it is completely useless at actually stopping the pandemic since it doesn't track people, isn't obligatory anywhere, and relies entirely on self reporting. The app instead serves as a useful demonstration for authoritarian governments of how ineffective democracies are at confronting the challenges of the 21st century. In any case, it is too little too late now.

I would say this app is not actually very effective, for some reasons that there are lots of people who aren't being honest to register when they are covid-19 positive. So it's lost its ability to track the infected and alert those who are in close contact

Useless App with useless functionality. Technically it is working OK. But to limit spreading of Covid it is totally useless. Basically a waste of money. It should have been a reverse registration where all infected automatically would have been entered into the database, and any with the app installed should be warned when exposed to an infected for more than 15 minutes based on the Bluetooth connection.
