Matvaretabellen 2014 inneholder 1469 matvarer og har verdier for 36 næringsstoffer. Matvarenes innhold av energi og næringsstoffer er målt i den tilstand de vanligvis finnes i butikken, men tabellen gir også næringsinnhold for et utvalg tilberedte matvarer og retter. Alle tabellverdiene gjelder innhold i 100 g spiselig vare, det vil si næringsinnholdet etter at skinn, skall, bein, kjerner eller annet som vanligvis ikke blir spist er fjernet. Matvaretabellen må oppdateres kontinuerlig ettersom nye matvarer lanseres hvert år samtidig som ingredienser og produksjonsmetoder endres i matvarer.
Næringsstoffverdiene i Matvaretabellen kommer fra:
Kjemiske analyser utført i kvalitetssikrede norske laboratorier
Lånte verdier hentet fra industrien eller utenlandske matvaretabeller
Estimerte verdier beregnet ut i fra liknende matvarer og retter
Matvaretabellen danner grunnlaget for beregning av inntaket av ulike næringsstoffer for enkeltpersoner og grupper av befolkningen. Den er derfor et viktig oppslagsverk og redskap i matforvaltning og ernæringspolitikk, i undervisning og opplysningsarbeid og for helsepersonell og forskere. Tabellen brukes også av matvareindustrien som grunnlag for varedeklarasjoner og ved matvareproduksjon.
Den offisielle norske matvaretabellen samfinansieres av Mattilsynet og Helsedirektoratet. Det praktiske arbeidet utføres av fagpersoner hos Mattilsynet og Avdeling for ernæringsvitenskap, Universitetet i Oslo.

First, evaluate your past dieting history. If you've been trying to lose weight for a long period of time, you’ve no doubt tried a wide variety of diets. Take note of the different diets you've tried over the years. Write down the basics of each diet, what worked and what didn’t. Also, write down why you didn’t stay on the particular diet. Evaluate your experience with high carbohydrate diets. These types of diets include most low-fat and calorie controlled diets. How did you feel while on these types of diets? Were you hungry, obsessed with food or experiencing negative reactions? Or did you feel full of energy and generally good?
If you’ve had experience with low carb diets, write that down as well. Past the negative effects of the first week, how did eating low carb make you feel? Why did you stop using the low carb diet?
The answers to these questions will help you decide whether Atkins is right for you or not. If you’ve had good experiences with low-fat diets and bad experiences with other low carb diets, then Atkins is probably not for you. If other low-carb diets have worked but not without difficulty, then you may have been on the wrong type of low-carb diet and Atkins might work better. If you’ve had bad experiences with both types of diets, then you may have better success with a modified Atkins diet.

The 17 (seventeen) day diet has been burning through the Internet ever since the start of the New Year when its creator, Dr. Mike Moreno, was “seen on TV” on Dr. Phil and The Doctors. The diet is “a simple plan that targets both belly fat and visceral fat and produces fast results that last.”
The 17 Day Diet Plan
Days 1 – 17 are to “Accelerate” on a low carbohydrate diet that provides around 1200 calories. Eat unlimited lean meat and no-starch vegetables, two fat-free plain yogurts and two low-sugar fruits, a bit of oil, green tea, and 64 ounces of water a day. Typical for any low carb diet, fat-burning and fluid loss is favored during those days.
Days 18 – 34 are to “Activate” by calorie cycling (aka calorie shifting or calorie zigzagging), which means that the daily calorie intake cycles and recycles from low to high over the course of several days. The goal is to trick the metabolism to prevent it from slowing down. Two servings of whole grains are added to the above to raise the average calorie intake to 1500 a day.
Days 35 – 51 are to “Achieve” good eating habits that last a lifetime. This phase is the same as “Activate” except that lean meat is no longer unlimited and more grains and fruit are added, along with an optional serving of alcohol and a 100-calorie snack. In other words, the low carb diet is 'Out' and a balanced low-calorie diet is 'In' sans the processed food.
Day 52 and on are to “Arrive” at a lifelong eating plan, which is a constant cycling through phases 1, 2 and 3 - until the weekends when you can splurge. But don’t binge, says Dr. Mike, and if you gain more than 5 pounds, return immediately to phase 2.
