The app will allow users to get location-specific reports on current air quality and air quality forecasts for both ozone and fine particle pollution (PM2.5). Air quality maps from the AIRNow website provide visual depictions of current and forecast air quality nationwide, and a page on air quality-related health effects explains what actions people can take to protect their health at different AQI levels, such as “code orange.”
The background color of the display, protection instructions and recommendations for how long one should be exposed to sunlight vary according to the UV index scale. The app displays the UV index measured at the observation station closest to the user and the distance to the observation station. The closest observation station is resolved based on the current location of the mobile device. It is also possible to browse the measurements of other observation stations.
The purpose of this app is to help people protect themselves from UV radiation. Exposure to strong UV radiation is harmful. Burned skin and trying to maintain a year-round tan causes premature aging of skin, and it may also lead to skin cancer. UV radiation may also weaken the immune system and damage the eyes.
The measurement data for Finland is read in real-time from a service provided by the the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The data displayed in the application is licensed by the Finnish Meteorological Institute: http://en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/open-data-licence.

The protection instructions and recommendations are collected from various sources, including the website of Finnish Meteorological Institute and Wikipedia.
The UV index is an international standard measurement of the strength of the ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun at a particular place on a particular day.
Sun UV Protector alerts you when you have to reapply your sunscreen depending on the current location and time. It provides useful information about the sunscreen that has to be used depending the skin type.
Sun UV Protector automatically locates your current position, measures the UV Index and initializes a count-down timer with alarm. The UV Index data comes from satellite data specially processed and covers the entire world.
-Sun UV Protector gets your location automatically via GPS
-It retrieves automatically the UV Index
-Automatically initializes a count-down timer with alarm depending on the current UV Index
-UV Index is based on satellite data and is very accurate
-It provides information about the sunscreen that has to be used depending on the skin type
Ultraviolet Radiation can be extremely harmful for all people, especially for children and white skin types. Everyone who has to work outdoors or just wants to enjoy the sun must be extremely careful on how long he can exposure his skin on sun radiation.
Listed in this app are some natural sunburn cures for treating sunburn, fpr easy reference.
The app will provide:
• Access to evidence-based, dermatologist-approved health care information for skin care and health.
• Expert insights on diseases affecting skin, hair, and nails, and the latest medical and cosmetic treatments.
• Real time UV Index based on the smartphone GPS system to assist in managing the medical dangers of ultraviolet radiation
• Links to Find A Dermatologist (TM) along with the smartphone GPS system for access to dermatologists in the area – while home or away.
It is easy to use anywhere in the world, and provides simple one step information for your optimal health.
Thus the Opti-D Time Calculator helps you to REDUCE YOUR RISK OF SKIN CANCER as well as REDUCE YOUR RISK OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY.
To use the app, simply download and open.
The app will locate your position, worldwide and source the UV Index (intensity of UV Radiation) that is currently predicted for today.
You then simply enter your skin type and the level of cloud cover at your location.
It will also display the text "too long" if you cannot receive enough UV to synthesise enough Vitamin D for the day.
The Opti-D Time Calculator based on this information will calculate how much time you need to spend in the sun to receive "Just the Right Amount" for optimal Vitamin D synthesis as well as minimise your risks of developing skin cancer or other UV related diseases like cataracts, premature aging etc.
There are 6 defined skin types called "Fitzpatrick skin types" and they are defined by a picture in the app and are:-
Type I Light, pale white. Always burns, never tans
Type II White; fair. Usually burns, tans with difficulty
Type III Medium, white to olive. Sometimes mild burn, gradually tans to olive.
Type IV Olive, moderate brown. Rarely burns, tans with ease to a moderate brown.
Type V Brown, dark brown. Very rarely burns, tans very easily
Type VI Black, very dark brown to black. Never burns, tans very easily, deeply pigmented
The Opti-D Time Calculator is a complete assessment, measurement and educational tool for the analysis of solar Ultraviolet Radiation (UV). Specifically, this app was designed to provide methods to find the optimal amount of UV a person should be exposed to, for minimisation of health risks, such as skin cancer (too much UV) or vitamin D deficiency (too low UV).
At present, above 60% of Australians and above 20% of US Citizens will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. Moreover, above 30% of Australians and over 40% of US citizens are currently vitamin D deficient. The Opti – D calculator package provides the necessary tools to significantly reduce these numbers and could safe billions of health dollars by educative prevention of these solar UV related diseases. IT WILL HELP YOU SO THAT YOU DO NOT BECOME ONE OF THESE STATISTICS.
Measurements were made to calculate standard UV exposures and well as UV transmission properties world wide. Global UV index databases where accessed and manipulated to calculate and ascertain UV exposure levels world wide to produce global UV exposure indication software for analysis and education of current UV exposure requirements for optimal Vitamin D synthesis. These Opti-D Time Calculator was verified using calibrated UV dosmetry equipemnt to verify its accuracy. This allows the user to accurately receive the correct amount of UV exposure for their skin type for optimal health benefits. A UV exposure time calculator was also developed to predict the time required for solar UV exposure for optimal health benefits.
Why should I use this app instead of the regular browser with bookmarks? Because with this app you can avoid the step of each time selecting the web pages to open and then open them one by one. Instead, all web pages are opened when the app starts and you can switch between the different web pages with ease. It is thus no substitute for the regular browser, but a perfect complement when you sometimes want to check out some pre-determined website in a fast manner.
Comment from user:
When I surf on my phone, eg the subway or the bathroom I always check the same pages. After each page, I have to click on favorites and then the page I want to, or type in the address bar. But with this app, add your regular reading list, and when you read one page, click the right arrow at the top and then move to the next page on your list.
Notepad, widget, reminder, text-to-speech, gestures, share via mail/mms etc.
If you use it don't forget to rate/comment it!
