This app does not deserve it's lack luster rating. It has a feature rich verbal command set and the voice recognition is quite good. There is a learning curve, just like using any new technology. If the user is for a sight impaired individual, I suggest that a companion become familiar with the s/w before giving it to that individual. It can be frustrating when the app asks for a command and the user doesn't know what to do. With a little patience and help from an experienced friend, it can be valuable assistance to the visually impaired.

(Almost) does exactly what I want it to. I get my daily newsletter through emails, and sometimes if I dont get to them for a while they pile up. I figured out exactly how to get the functionality out of this app that I wanted, except, it does very very poorly as soon as my screen turns off or I try to use another app. There is no notification to keep it going if you exit the app, so it slows to a crawl and eventually stops reading things entirely if you leave it. You have to keep the screen on.

Hi, speaking email does have a setting to enable it to continue reading in the background (under auto play options) but apps cannot do speech recognition in the background so background functionality is limited. It will just continue to read for a short while and then stop. It is ideal to use it in the foreground.

I like it. I was out on the highway and received several very complicated emails (in tiny print) and thought, now is the time to get an email reader. So, I pulled over, Googled email readers, and found this one. So, I downloaded it and drove off letting it read to me. The voice sounds computerish (as it should), but it worked well and was very clear. One suggestion: It would be great if it also read web pages. It would be helpful when I have a long article or kindle book on the road and it could read the article to me. Put that on your list of upcoming R&D. But even without that, Speaking Email is a nice product and I like it a lot.
