A bit underwhelming. Has some features on by default that I find annoying (scrub scrolling, reading time/date/sender, not reading in background, stopping every 5 seconds) and lacks features that I would have assumed to have been vital (highlighting text being read, controlling which part is being read by clicking text).

Thanks for your feedback. I see the defaults are not what you would have expected, but there are many use cases where the defaults make sense (eg blind, driving). You are right we do not have highlighting text, which would be a good improvement. Sorry you found it overall underwhelming, that is not what we are going for!

This app does not deserve it's lack luster rating. It has a feature rich verbal command set and the voice recognition is quite good. There is a learning curve, just like using any new technology. If the user is for a sight impaired individual, I suggest that a companion become familiar with the s/w before giving it to that individual. It can be frustrating when the app asks for a command and the user doesn't know what to do. With a little patience and help from an experienced friend, it can be valuable assistance to the visually impaired.

Thank you! Remember you can say "help" to find out what you can say.

Let me start this review by stating that I am a premium user. The price is really reasonable and worth the extra features. I use this app almost daily to read out very long emails, and it works very well, but does have a few issues. For one, the playback controls don't really work. Rewinding or fast forwarding doesn't function as intended. The app must stay in the foreground in order to continue reading as if you leave it, it will slow down and eventually stop, and there is no Bluetooth control.

Hi, speaking email does have a setting to enable it to continue reading in the background (under auto play options) but apps cannot do speech recognition in the background so background functionality is limited. It will just continue to read for a short while and then stop. It is ideal to use it in the foreground.

What's new

- Compatible with latest Google Play subscriptions
- Ability to switch off reading out sender name and "unread email"
- New option to set up 'Dictation Auto Replace Expansions' which will replace any phrase you choose with your custom replacement
