About Luther’s Small Catechism
Brief, clear summaries of God’s Word allow individuals and families alike to use Luther’s Small Catechism as a powerful tool and prayer book. Though the catechism was written by Martin Luther in 1529, its question and answer format provides Christians with a timeless and easy-to-use guidebook that is applicable to all the various callings we have in life.

The Small Catechism explores the Six Chief Parts of Christian Doctrine: the Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, Confession, and the Sacrament of the Altar. It also includes daily prayers, a table of duties for Christians, and a guide for Christians to use as they prepare to receive Holy Communion.

Truly a remarkable learning tool. I admit, I was first skeptical of Lutheranism, but then, when I discovered how rich the theology of Martin Luther really is, it opened my eyes. I seen Scripture come alive. The Apostles Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Ten Commandments -- cover so much more than I previously thought. It isn't empty rituals. The free version was great, but if you really want to delve in deeper, my suggestion is to buy the explanations. You won't be disappointed!

Luther's Small Catechism from Concordia Publishing House is a basic text for almost all LCMS Lutherans, the explanations provided in that premium content has been studied by confirmation students for generations and having Luther's Catechism and those explanations _DOWNLOADED_ on your phone and available for review and study is a valuable addition to any Christian's mobile device. That said... I emphasized Downloaded for a reason. On the free tier at least, it doesn't download Luther's small catechism translated into common English to your phone so you must access the internet every single time. I don't know if it downloads the explanations as I didn't purchase that. This means that as long as you have access to the Internet, which people take for granted but isn't always available especially when traveling, this is a serviceable option. If they downloaded all content under all circumstances I would give it 5 stars. Since they don't, if all you want is Luther's Small Catechism, and can live without the explanations, I recommend going to project Gutenberg and downloading the epub or mobi of the Catechism and load it on either the Kindle app or your epub reader of choice.

Thank you for the review. When the app first runs, it checks for an internet connection and if present, downloads and caches the content. Once downloaded, the app should function as a normal without Internet connection. If this is not the case, please reach out to our support team apps@cph.org and they can help assist to find out what’s going on.

Well worth the purchase of "The Explanations"! It opened the small catechism for much deeper introspection and is convenient for teaching Confirmation class at Church. Easy to navigate, too!
