About this app

The Fire, Weather & Avalanche Center (FWAC) Wildfire Map app is a great tool for checking for wildfires--big or small--across the country. In addition to large wildfire incidents, our map also incorporates smoke checks, prescribed burns, and smaller wildfires that you usually don't hear about because they're only a couple acres in size.

The same great wildfire map on our website is available for Android with another feature that uses your location to find wildfires that are closest to you!

The information is great, when I can get it, but it's often incredibly frustrating to navigate. It can take minutes for the map to even start loading and then another minute or more to actually appear. Adjusting menu items may or may not provide a response. I repeatedly restart the app to try to get something. Uninstalled/reinstalled, no help. UPDATE... While I had a lot of trouble with this in the beginning, it all of a sudden has been working flawlessly and I upped to 5 star.

I think this map has great potential and I do really like the design of it. However, the lack of accurate updates on some of the reported wildfires is disappointing. It's clear some fires are being actively updated, then you click on others that are marked as active and quickly spreading only to see that it was last updated a month ago or longer, which, obviously and disappointingly, makes the map quite inaccurate.

Tammy, thanks for leaving a review of our app. The fire data within the app and our online map is updated hourly by our servers. However, we pull information for numerous government agencies and, unfortunately, they don't always update information on their end. Contact us at info@fireweatheravalanche.org if you still have questions.

This app was great last summer. Lately, however, it will not open on my phone. Google pixel 3A xl. And yes, I know the phone isn't the newest model, but the app should work still. Edit:. It's working again. A recent update must have fixed my crashing problems. Its back to being a great app!
