Ratings and reviews

Really really good. Bittersweet throughout, characters are vibrant and fleshed out well, the scenarios are exciting and varied, the magic system is very unique and inventive. Not hard to keep your stats up, and you can play a lot of different variations of a character. Really hope there's a sequel soon - A given since it says book 1? No spoilers, but eager to see how it plays out given the story's direction.

Fun magic system. Particularly loved the Alchemist path. Writing is good, setting is good but characters are relatively flat and generic. There is nothing special about any of them really except for the villain. The game is also rather short and linear with very few diverging paths except for certain major choices. Worth the $2.99 price tag for sure but not sure it would be at full price. Still, it is fun and I'll get the next one when it comes out.

I found it refreshing to read a journey being taken this way. Not many of them have the literal end (usually it is roughly the middle of the story where something bad happens and continues from there) being told and there are multiple snippets of flashbacks that tell the story of MC and the other characters. I liked it a lot and enjoyed the characters we got to interact with. I'm excited and will happily wait for the next book.
