About this app

This mobile application allows front line officers to assess alarms from radiation detection systems at points of entry such as airports and border crossings or during major public events.

The Personnel Alarm Assessment Tool (PAAT) focuses on alarms set off by people passing through radiation detectors. When a radiation alarm is triggered, front line officers can use PAAT to conduct a simple interview and a radiation dose-rate measurement of the involved person. The application gives a red, yellow or green signal and provides assistance for the front line officers in the assessment of the radiation alarm. PAAT provides an assessment support and officers should independently verify the results.

In most cases, the person involved has recently undergone medical treatment or a diagnostic procedure with the use of radiopharmaceuticals.

Note:
• The App does not collect any identifying personal data.
• The dose estimates in the App are for standard models and should not be considered patient-specific under any circumstances.
• The assessment results shall be used only for nuclear security purposes.
• The App has not been extensively tested on all platforms, under all conditions. As such, users of this tool must verify all results prior to decision making.
