Review from Dan Armano
I absolutely love iNaturalist. Whether it's for learning new info, getting things IDd or just sharing my experiences it's a good place to track my observations, other than the old pen and paper of course!
I love everything there is to learn on iNaturalist! I am hardly even a novice ecologist, but I love that I can take pictures of organisms that interest me and people in the community can help identify them. And then iNaturalist has so much info available once they're identified so you can REALLY learn about things that catch your eye. The data they have available is basic info (eg Wikipedia entry) about the species as well as information compiled by the users of iNaturalist (eg all the places that a species has been sighted). I just think it's amazing and felt that I had to come review it without even being prompted.
Good app, has a few bugs. Currently the thumbnail pictures no longer show up under My Observations for recent records. The last registry I made that has a thumbnail was Sept 12. Since then none of them have thumbnails.
Good app to store observations. I will give 3 stars because many things need to be upgraded. Failing go find my guide which I created on website.
I use INaturalist constantly to learn and document the natural world around me. I very rarely use the website as I am typically in the field with my phone. While I love this website and what it encourages, I am extremely frustrated with the quality of this app. The majority of the time, none of my observations will load, other people's pictures also won't load, the app constantly crashes anytime I try to click on an activity or notification, when I try to upload multiple observations, it will delete some of them. I like the new AI they just added that matches pictures to similar observations, but that also rarely loads. I have tried reinstalling this app more times than I can count. Please do something about this. I've shown this app to many people, and cannot explain the frustration of touting an app that won't work 75% of the time...
I really like the new updates and photo identifier. One of my favorite apps!
Lots of updates and bug fixes:
* New Explore section! Lots more filters and search options, plus all results visible on the map
* New observation button in the slide-out menu, so you can start a new observation from anywhere in the app
* New comment form with support for mentions
* Allow moving the app to external storage (e.g. SD card)
