Our intention is to make this app the first place a homeless person residing in Norwich or Great Yarmouth in the United Kingdom will look when searching for help and support near their location.
The database of help is for these locations only - so, although the app can be downloaded throughout the UK, it will only be useful to residents of Norwich and Great Yarmouth. We’re looking to expand the database as we grow the project.
The app lists filterable categories of support on offer, including
Organisations that offer any kind of support to homeless people can be listed in our database. People using our app will be directed to the help they need.
The person looking for support can view the availability of local assistance in a choice of views: Map view and List view. Both views only show help that is available within a five mile radius of the phone’s location.
Map view shows the location of all support in the form of Pins on a map. Tapping on a Pin brings up the option to Get Directions via a link to Google Maps.
List view sorts the same information in a list with a choice to order the list either by distance or event date.
If an event is taking place in the future (e.g. a soup kitchen that’s only operating on Sunday evenings) a reminder can be set so that your phone notifies you when this is coming up.
Kanndoo is a non-profit Community Interest Company. The organisation was founded with the idea that technology and social media could be used to improve the lives of people without a permanent and safe place to live. This app is the first step towards that goal.
