Awesome Informative, useful and easy to use. Brilliant app happy to pay for full version

Excellent study tool Very useful and great for those questions while travelling on the bus or in a car. Not great for searching for kanji. Searched for 択 using the "shape" function. Doesn't come up...comes if you knew to read as erabu which I hadnt. Maybe I'm missing something but then it means it's not as straight forward as claimed. Ability to look up kanji by radical or stroke order would be awesome. There are cheaper kanji dictionaries that integrate all into one product. Why is this lacking?

Arigatou I love it. Thank you because without this app, I might not be able to speak a word or write in niponggo. I plan to go to Japan and study there.

Great features, a little slow I really like the information provided beyond just a definition/translation. The only thing keeping that fifth star off for me is the speed, or lack thereof. The dynamic search is part of the culprit. I'd rather it just let me finish typing the word, then search. I have to enter a character, wait for it to filter, type another character, and so on. I really wish I could turn that off. That should be the next included feature. Also would be nice if it recognized conjugated forms of a verb.

Very helpful Its a really nyc app. It usually has most of the words a student will need. Also, so many meanings. The updated version even has sentences. So, in short i never looked for another dictionary since i have it.

Really the best English-Japanese dictionary in Google Play Store. Quick loading, offline-mode, able to search via romanji, efficient. Best few bucks I ever spent. You guys should buy and unlock the premium features to support him/them.10/10

you can search kanji by reading, meaning, radicals, parts, child/parent kanji, jlpt, class, grade, frequency, type, stroke number, ... at the same, which is unique (some options are only available in the unlocked app though)
You can't search by stroke order but you can install the free google handwriting recognition app, which is way better. The latest version in development is much faster. Register for the BETA here: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.lakedaemon.japanese.dictionary
Incremental search is an important part of this dictionary. Turning it off would actually make it less efficient because it allows you to find words quicker by typing less Really the best English-Japanese dictionary in Google Play Store. Wow, O.O
Thanks. ^^ Sugoi desu ne I hope that it will contain the japanese voice i mean how to read the words cuz as like begginers we do not know how to read japanese language
Spartan Entertainment September 30, 2015
The latest development version (Tenjin 3.6 Beta 3) has text to speech capabilities (you have to setup a text to speech engine like this one from google :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tts).
It is available through a (free) inscription here :
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.lakedaemon.japanese.dictionary Doesn't find the most important words The first entry should be the most important one but when searching in English this is not the case which is frustrating. Also the start-up is slow and design not very good.
Spartan Entertainment December 12, 2015
It is better with the next version in development, that you can find here :
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.lakedaemon.japanese.dictionary
Start up should only be slow at the first launch or if you restart your phone.
After that, the data it needs is cached. Very good, premium fix working Looks like premium fix is working, thanks! A bit slow start up but I can live with that.
Spartan Entertainment April 2, 2015
Improving startup is on my priority list.
It will improve in future releases
Spartan Entertainment September 12, 2015
Why doesn't it work ? Did you manage to download the data ? (check if you do have enough room on your sd card/device, you should be safe with at least 60MB, though 100MB lmight be best).
In case you downloaded corrupted data that the app can't fix, you might get away with deleting the "spartan-entertainment" folder and redownloading Can't hide sidebar on the right After I purchase it there is a stupid sidebar on the right when I view example sentences etc. which takes up a lot of space, and there is no option to hide it. I really regret making the purchase... should have just kept using the free version.
Spartan Entertainment November 12, 2015
The sidebar on the right has meanings and allows navigation for words/kanji/grammar lessons for sentences...
It takes 1 third of the screen and is usually full with items.
You can try asking Google for a refound of your money or send me an email and I'll see what I can do for you Best Japanese Dictionary App This is the best Nihongo-learning aid app out there! With sample sentences, you'll improve your vocabulary faster! :)
Spartan Entertainment April 5, 2015
I'm going to keep improving the App (slowly but steadily) :
notably, the reading position markers will come back in a next update
Please add the possibility of deinflecting verbs OK, I still think that it will be a very useful addition if you could allow Tenjin to behave this way. It will be very helpful for beginners... Changed my rating to 5, I'm hopeful for the future.
Spartan Entertainment July 13, 2015
I'll add it to the todo list. Not at the top though because there are more important stuff coming before :
I hope to release Tenjin 4.0 at the end of my summer vacations.
There will be drastic improvements as well as new and (hopefully) interesting and useful features... Spartan Entertainment April 23, 2016
after clicking on the icon that looks like a lock (in the action bar), a dialog appears that allows you to unlock the app for around 2€ on all your android devices Spartan Entertainment July 25, 2015
Added on the todo list Best Jap-Eng-Jap dictionary This is by far the best Jap-Eng-Jap dictionary that I've come across. Many words that can't be searched using other translation tools can be found here. Totally love this app!
Spartan Entertainment October 28, 2015
Thanks.
If you want to try now the bleeding edge features coming with the next public update (text to speech, speech input, faster, leaner, better...),
you can subscribe to the BETA test program :
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.lakedaemon.japanese.dictionary
(the new major features work but some minor issues remain though) Spartan Entertainment April 7, 2015
It is able to export to ankidroid (there is an export icon).
It does it just 1 card at the time though and it is a bit basic
(there is a lot of data in Tenjin, you have to decide in ankidroid, what data you want to keep in your fact/card). Need variations of the verbs together I feel when looking up a verb that it should have all the variations of that one verb grouped together like the past tense, negative form, -masu form, present form, etc.
Spartan Entertainment March 4, 2016
it might come in the next major update how to find synonym or antonym? paid the full version, but how to search a synonym or antonym? i need these two features.
Spartan Entertainment December 5, 2015
When typing in the search box, in the paid version, the choices to look for antonym and synonym should appear (if they exist). If this doesn't work, it's a bug that has probably already been fixed in the version in development available here :
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.lakedaemon.japanese.dictionary
PLease try it, it
Spartan Entertainment September 4, 2015
Thanks !
An update with lots of fixes and improvements is coming in the next weeks. Spartan Entertainment October 25, 2015
This implies sending a sentence to google/Bing/Yandex translate, with the network, to get a translation back.
I did this in the past and could implement it, but this is not a goal :
Tenjin is about enpowering the user (and improving his skills) to do the translation himself (using human intelligence) rather than use machine translation Uses chinese font for kanji instead of japanese. Displays some two-kanji words horizontally and some vertically (choose one, there is enough space!). At least it does not have ads.
Spartan Entertainment October 6, 2015
The app uses the phone font for Japanese / Kanji (check your phone settings)
Kanji (in blue) may have many readings (displayed horizontally)
Words (in green) may have furigana (displayed under the word). Those can be removed or customized (in hiragana/romaji,...) in the app's settings.
Only 1 reading of a word is displayed on the search screen. Incredible This app is marvellous. I'm not exaggerating, seriously, it has it ALL. I'd like to point out that, for me, the design is a little messy, but it's totally understandable since there's a lot of stuff. Just perfect if you're serious about learning Japanese.
Spartan Entertainment March 12, 2015
Why is the design a little messy ?
What could be improved ?
There are still lots of improvements coming in the pipeline, but it takes time to implement them.
They'll come slowly but steeadily Great app! I started using this app a while back as premium because i had some extra google credit and was looking for a good dictionary. I didnt like the interface. I found it way too much information, so after a few trys of using it, i switched to a simpler dictionary. A year later, I decided to reinstall it and give it another go. We'll its gone through some interface updates, that provide some interface customization. And now, maybe because I know more Japanese, I'm finding the extra information wonderful. I think I'm going to keep this as my primary dictionary especially because it has offline only functionality (an essential trait for a phone dictionary i think) There was an issue i was having, but it turned out to just be a random issue on the coding, nothing awful. I'll be contacting the developer for possible bug fix.
Spartan Entertainment March 11, 2015
Yes, please do so. Fiing your issue will help other users that might have it too.
The user interface should keep improving but it's a slow process.
Thank you for giving Tenjin a second chance. ^^ Review deleted
