My preferred source for news and entertainment from NPR The data issues seem to have been fixed.
Great app with annoying issues I love the content and format of NPR One; mixing recent news with a great library of older material is genius. That being said, I have one serious gripe: volume equalization. Some segments are incredibly Loyd and other incredibly quite. I'm listening via my phone's speaker, so it's not like another piece of hardware is causing the problem. Being unable to hear certain tracks is a significant deal-breaker, so hopefully it gets fixed in an upcoming revision.
I really wish this app had an option to download and store podcasts for offline listening. Also the play controls can be improved: skip forward/backward 30 seconds is very handy. Bottom line: I don't find this app useful for listening to podcasts.
I like it Very nice. Wish we could donate to member stations thru the app via GWallet. Maybe that would require too many permissions, I don't know.
This app is a great idea, but it has a long way to go. The way programming is laid out is time-agnostic, so I'll often hear a report from my local station about an upcoming event or vote in Congress that already happened. It's also much less customizable than I thought it would be. But my biggest gripe came to me this morning, when, puzzled about my cell provider's notifications that I've been going over on my data for the past two months, I checked the data usage for all of my apps. NPR One has used 642MB of data, more than 30% of a standard 2GB data plan, in three weeks. This is entirely in the background, as I've only used the app a handful of times this month. This is three times higher than my second most data-hungry app. That's insanity. Please fix this, developers.
Still room for improvement. I love the NPR One app (even more so than the NPR app) but I would really like to see the following features added: The photo that's displayed during stories on the phone's lock screen to be displayed on the app's screen as well during articles, being able to "follow" or subscribe to keywords of article titles, and have a widget created for the app. Other than those suggestions, I love it.
