About this app

XtraMath is a math fact fluency program that helps students increase their math fluency and recall in order to succeed in fractions, decimals, and other higher-level math concepts. XtraMath student activities are simple and straightforward and take about 10 minutes each day. The program uses sophisticated methods to present your child with the right problem at the right time to maximize the effectiveness of practice. Students earn a certificate of achievement when they complete an operation as well as receive trophy awards as they hit program milestones.
You will receive a weekly progress report via e-mail. The report shows how well your child knows their math facts and the progress they are making toward mastery. More detailed reports can be accessed via the web at any time. Additionally, there is a user guide you can download that will walk you through the program and the reports.
Many educators choose XtraMath to supplement their regular math curriculum in the classroom. XtraMath does not have any advertising within the app, and we comply with applicable data privacy laws, such as FERPA, COPPA, and GDPR, as well as have signed the Student Privacy Pledge. User data and information is never sold or given to third parties.
XtraMath® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to math achievement for all. Our goal is to develop effective, efficient, adaptive, and intrinsically rewarding supplemental math activities.

This is lierally just math problems, it doesn't make it fun, it isn't rewarding to complete, and it doesn't offer any guidance when kids get stuck. Its not any more useful than flashcards or sheets of problems. Getting an arbitrary number to track progress is useless, I have used it with both of my kids at their teachers request and see more frustration than improvement. Use flashcards with your kids instead so you can help them through problems. It doesn't help to just keep answering questions wrong.

Have you tried any of our modifications? (Longer response time/reduced problem set?) Our program is designed to be like "smart flashcards," which adapts to the student's ability as they complete it. The timed response is set at a default of 3 because research shows that's what constitutes "mastery" of a problem, but you can always adjust as needed.

Kids in first grade don't have the hand and eye coordination to be able to; not only solve the problem, but also be required to key in the answer in five seconds. My daughter is stressed out trying to get the answer keyed in fast enough that she's shaking and putting in the incorrect answer that she has already solved correctly verbally. I can see speeding them up as she improves, but it's almost too fast for me and I know I can type faster than most, as I do medical transcription.

We love this app!! It was a little hard to get used to first because the 3 seconds time frame but after some perseverance, my first grader, grew to love the app and competing with himself to raise his scores! He loved watching the green tiles slowly take over his learning matrix on addition. He is now working on his subtraction facts. I have found that this app works best when you also incorporate other activities, practice pages, and such to work on the concepts of math. If you use this program as a stand alone for teaching math, I don't believe it will work as successfully. However, when it's put into a full program of teaching, it works beautifully!! I really love that my first grader can now answer most all his addition problems without using his fingers or counting on a number line. Thanks for this app. It is very intentionally designed and works very well accordingly. We will be using it for many years and concepts to come!!

Thank you for your thoughtful review! I'm glad that your student has been making such good progress. You're right, XtraMath is not intended to teach the math facts, but instead to help with mastery (which makes more complicated math easier).
